Much has been said and speculated about President Obama’s “evolving” – and yes, it’s a journalistic requisite to put that word in quotations – stance on gay marriage over the past two years. However, today in an interview with with ABC News, President Obama stated for the first time his unequivocal support for same-sex marriage.

“At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” President Obama said today, less than 24 hours after North Carolina became the 30th state in the United States to adopt a constitutional amendment exclusively defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

He punctuated his statement shortly thereafter on his official Twitter account.

As you’d expect if you were watching Twitter last night after North Carolina’s Amendment 1 passed, or if you’ve ever looked at Twitter even once in your life, the Twitterati, as is their wont, went ablaze with a spectrum of responses to the President’s declaration.

Ok Mr. President you said the right thing. Now can you DO the right thing? Action > words. #makeithappen 8 minutes ago via Echofon ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Obama has a right to his opinion. As president, He needs to better serve our country rather than grandstanding on issues that he has no control over. Recently I read where china got 3 huge bridge contracts here in the US using Chinese labor. Why could these jobs not go to Americans. Here is a point Obama needs to focus on, getting America back to work, not china.
