Earlier this week, a reporter and cameraman for Providence, Rhode Island’s ABC 6 news station were attacked by a woman while attempting to question her. The woman’s daughter was shot during a recent graduation party, and the suspect in the shooting had just been caught. When asked how she felt about it, the woman threw a rock at the cameraman, brandished a bat at the crew, and sent two dogs to attack the newswoman.

The newswoman, Abbey Niezgoda, received a tetanus shot for a dog bite and then filed a police report against her attacker, 35-year-old Melissa Lawrence. Now, Lawrence has been charged in connection with the attack.

According to a Providence Journal report, Lawrence now faces two felony assault charges for the attack. She reportedly wore a shirt reading “My Attitude is Your Problem” to court on Wednesday, where not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf. She has been released on personal recognizance and forbidden to contact Niezgoda or the cameraman.

The entire incident was caught on video, leaving little doubt that Niezgoda attacked the news crew:

  • Ridiculous

I hope this woman gets charged to the fullest extent possible. Earlier this week she welcomed news crews to her house…if she didn’t want the news crew at her house this time, there is an adult way of handling the situation…it doesn’t involve throwing rocks, grabbing a bat or siccing dogs on a woman who was just trying to do her job. Furthermore, i find it interesting that she was able to come up with the money for her bail…she apprently doesn’t have a job (it’s the middle of the day and she’s dressed like a slob) and i’m guessing she receives public assistance…yet has thousands of dollars to get out of jail. Perfect showcase of working class peoples tax dollars hard at work…SAD!

The reporter could have called and asked the GRIEVING MOTHER if she wanted to be interviewed. The reporter seems to be banking on white priveledge that she can just impose herself on a black mother who has been through emotional trauma for the sake of BS sensationalist reporting. Now the grieving mother has more BS to deal with because the reporter has no compassion or common sense. She got what she deserved.

    • Ridiculous

Joe – i can see your perspective and i would agree with you if the same woman (the mother) hadn’t been so “news-hungry” earlier this week when the incident firt happened (which one would think at that point, she would’ve been in more of a grieving state). She was all about being on the news and didn’t have a problem with a white reporter then. As i said in my previous comment, i can understand if the woman did not want the news crew at her house however there is an ADULT way to handle the situation. The reporter was not on her property and furthermore didn’t deserve to be racially cursed at. I don’t care what color you are (black, white, orange, etc)…NO ONE deserves to be subjected to racist remarks. If the situation was reversed and it was a white person calling a black person a racial slur, that would’ve been highlighted just as much – if not more so – than the story itself.

The lady’s daughter was shot and this reporter is waving a mike in her face sayin with attitude “how do you feel about that”. She should have popped her right in the face.

Try racking up 2 assault charges and walking on your own recognizance, judge must have sympathized with her due to them having something in common, close your eyes and imagine what I’m talking about, can you see it? the judges wife was appointed by our kenyan prez btw but that is irrelevant

    • Snookman

Amen to that! Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Going out on a limb here…But if the kid is just as disrespectful as her stupid Mom, no wonder she got shot!

  • Noneya Business

If I tell you to leave me alone and get away from my house SEVERAL TIMES, and for the sake of a news story you CONTINUE to harass and badger me…I would do more than sick some mutts on you! People have a lot of nerve. That woman is going through something traumatic right now, and this broad wants to stick a microphone in her face! What this video DOESN’T show is this woman CONSTANTLY telling the reporter to leave her alone. I TAPED IT! The reporter would not let up!!! I should put this news station on blast and post the REAL video on youtube!
