Mark Wahlberg Says His Faith is Most ImportantBy: Daryl Nelson - December 18, 2013
Ever since his breakout role in the film “Boogie Nights,” actor Mark Wahlberg has been a mainstay on the big screen. But with everything he’s accomplished — both in Hollywood and in the music world as a rapper — he says faith and religion are the most important things to him.
Faith is “The most important part of my life,” he said in an interview with Parade Magazine. “I don’t try to push it on anybody and I don’t try to hide it.”
Wahlberg also revealed that he rarely misses church on Sundays and that he usually attends service twice on that day.
“If the kids are good, I’ll have doughnuts for them at 6:30 in the morning and I’ll say, ‘You guys gotta let mommy sleep in,’ ” he says. “I’ll go to church at 7:30 and everybody will be eating breakfast when I come home. Then we’ll go to church again at 10:30 if things aren’t too hectic.”
However his spirituality isn’t the only thing he discussed in the interview, as he also spoke about the upcoming “Entourage” movie, which is being filmed in April 2014, his hometown of Boston and how difficult it was to make the leap from rapper to respected actor.
“I don’t think it was customary for people from a music background to be accepted in film in a serious way,” he admits. “Considering what I had to overcome, I’ve had plenty to motivate me. Even more so today, I’m passionate about what I do. I’m a little older, but I’m not getting lazy!”
The 42-year old actor has been making the promotional rounds for his latest movie “Lone Survivor,” based on the Navy SEALs mission “Operation Red Wings,” which took place during the War in Afghanistan. Wahlberg said making this movie was extremely important to him.
“It takes a very special individual to become a SEAL,” he said. “I felt it was so important to give the guys who never came down off that mountain their due. My wife couldn’t talk for 45 minutes after she saw the movie. All she kept thinking about were the sons and fathers and mothers and daughters out there fighting for our freedom.”
