  • Marge Simpson got a new dress after a visit to Project Runway: All Stars. The designers were challenged to make a dress for Marge that she could wear out on a date with hubby Homer Simpson. She has worn the same boring green dress for nearly a quarter of a century.

Marge appeared in a video to explain to the designers exactly what the competition entailed.

“Normally I have one simple fashion philosophy: find a dress that looks good on you and wear it every day for the rest of your life,” she said.

With the show’s 25th anniversary on the horizon, Marge told the designers she needed something that could be easily removed should Homer feel the need to do so following their date. She also insisted that her new creation not be green.

All of the designers outshone Marge Simpson’s boring green dress, but only one was chosen for the big 25th anniversary episode and date. Irina Shabayeva’s dress–in an eggplant hue–beat the other designers hands down. Jeffrey Sebelia was sent home, since his ‘futuristic’ gown was about as far away as one could get from what Marge Simpson might wear.

Twitter was no stranger to talk about Marge Simpson and her impending new dress, even though the tweets weren’t all favorable.

What did you think about Project Runway creating a design for Marge Simpson to wear? Was it a bit ridiculous, since Marge is an animated character, or was it a challenge that aptly exercised the creativity of all the designers?
