Kingdoms of Amalur is one of the few RPGs that seem to be getting DLC right these days. Mass Effect 3 had day one DLC that was already on disc and Final Fantasy XIII-2 just keeps on adding new costumes that add little to the actual experience. Last month, Amalur saw the excellent DLC "The Legend of Dead Kel" that added a new continent with a side story that added more to the world's lore without feeling like it was essential to the core experience. The new DLC pack is adding more of the same world building that fans will want without feeling cheated.
The new DLC pack for Amalur is called "The Teeth of Naros." It features a new race of giants called the Kollossae. One of the key points of the DLC is for players to "uncover the mysteries of their faith." That's not all though as it adds a whole lot more content and then some.
"The Teeth of Naros" adds a new city to the game called Idylla. It's a floating city that features more than 20 side quests, multiple dungeons and the aforementioned new race of giants. There will be a total of five dungeons for players to explore. The press release describes them as "enormous" and if some of the other dungeons in Amalur are any indication, you can expect them to be pretty big.
As always with these new DLC releases, there is also the promise of new items, weapons and armors. This DLC pack doesn't disappoint with the addition of three new twists of fate, nine new armor sets, six new shields and 18 new weapons.
The Teeth of Naros will launch on Xbox Live, PSN, Origin and Steam on April 17 for $9.99. While it may not be as big as the "The Legend of Dead Kel," the addition of a floating city should be enough for hardcore fantasy game fans like myself. There is a distinct lack of floating cities in games these days and its high time an RPG rectified this travesty.
