Kelly Ripa Won’t Be Working With Her Husband On Show

By: Amanda Crum - May 3, 2012

“Live! With Kelly” has seen it’s share of hosts and co-hosts over the years since Kathie Lee Gifford left Regis Philbin holding the reins by himself; for quite a while before Kelly Ripa came on board, there was a rotating cast of celebrities sharing hosting duties.

Now that Philbin has left the show, it’s happening again, only Kelly is in the hotseat, auditioning potential co-hosts for the show’s future. Rumors have been circulating that Ripa had her husband, Mark Consuelos, in mind for the gig, but she quickly shot down the idea in the June issue of Vanity Fair, saying there’s no way it would ever happen.

“No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn’t see how we could stay married and both do that show,” she said.

Because Ripa has seen the show from both sides–the rookie and the vet–she knows how important the process is and that it can’t be rushed. A quick fix by her hubs wouldn’t work in the long run.

“We’ve just scratched the surface of people out there,” Michael Gelman, the show’s executive producer, said. “We have enjoyed a lot of people who have already co-hosted, and we’re bringing a bunch of them back for more ‘dates.”

While cast and crew say the show is very different–and sad–without Philbin there, it’s also been as much if not more successful since Kelly took over sole hosting duties, and the producers aren’t anxious to break the rapport Ripa has with the audience by bringing in someone new. Only time will tell who’ll get the coveted job, and for now, Ripa is enjoying the alone time with her fans.

OMG I love when Josh Groban hosts with Kelly Ripa–they are so funny together! :)(image) 5 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

The show has gotten so much better since Regis left the show. I actually like to revolving co-host and hope this continues for some time. It brings a different energy to the show.
Kelly ROCKS it, I do agree that Gosh is a good fit. But I truly enjoy the show when Mark is the co-host.

  • Kathi

I don’t think she needs a co-host. She is great and should just continue having different people guest with her.

  • Bud Ricks

I actually have a job so I haven’t seen the show for years. No loss.

    • Betsey

If you have a job, does your boss know you’re reading this article AND commenting? Get back to work!

  • Sue

I love the show since Kelly has been on before Kelly I had no interest. I miss Regis but love it when Neil Patrick Harris cohosts

    • john

they already have kelly for the female role they dont need a gay male

      • Big Al

        Please, no more hissing Harris!

I don’t really care for the show since Regis left. Kelly really has nothing interesting to talk about anymore. The show has become very boring listening to her talk solely about her kids everyday. She has nothing to offer. I think she is a very sweet person, however, to host a show she needs more to offer the people other than telling us what she and her family did everynight.

      So true

i say they get charlie sheen the combination of kelly and sheen would be awesome i mean hell winning

Kelly is the best thing that has happened for the show….I love the revolving door of guests help doing the show with her. I do love her husband and they are awesome together..But yes, as the saying goes, you can not mix pleasure with serious..Keep up the good work Kelly. I think you are doing an awesome job on the show…

Keep the rotating co-hosts Gelman. It works! It brings a new energy and edge to the show every day. And it keeps you tuning in to see who’s there next. Some co-hosts bring out different things in Kelly. It keeps the show fresh every day.

Wow I hope Mark still co host I like the way it is going too Kelly is so funny Gosh is good with Kelly.

  • Teresa Michael

I love Kelly,Mark but they have work together and separately they know what works for them.

  • Lynda

I really do miss Regis. I thought of not watching any longer, but Kelly is doing fine. I like some of the co host, If I don’t like them I just don’t watch. I like several, but do wish Mark would take the spot, however if it is going to put a strain on their marriage, DON’T.
Pick someone with a gift of gab and not reserve like some of them have been. They need to complement each other.

Youused the wrong “its” in the first sentence. If you’re going to publish an article, proofread.

I love Kelly, but I REALLY miss Regis!! He has so many interesting stories and life experiences to share. He is just a hoot and, as much as I love Kelly, I am okay if I don’t catch EVERY show. Not so when Regis was there. Replacing Regis will be near impossible in my heart and mind!

I kinda like the revolving co-host thing that they are doing. It keeps it fresh. I like Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Strahan and Josh Grobin. They are my top three picks. I also think she works great with Carrie Ann Inaba (sp?). I would like to see a broadway week and get some actors esp Ricky Martin to co-host. I really like Mark but I don’t think they will keep it fresh for a long period of time. He can sub in when a co-host gets sick or takes a vacation.

I would like to see Kelly and Alec Baldwin work together. We have seen them on other shows in the past and what a perfect time all around. Kelly is great and quick with her words and well Alec Baldwin what can we say, handsome and quick with his words. This would be a GREAT FIT!!!! At least try them for one week together and then see the ratings…….

    • http://yahoo Linda

I love Kelly. but if she has Alec Baldwin as co host or Neil Harris, I would never watch again. PleaSE DONt choose either of them….

  • Nancy

Although I am the antithesis of what you’re looking for – female, no experience doing anything but raising a family, overweight, old to young people and young to old people (aka middle aged), have a tendency of putting my foot in my mouth – I would love to fill the position! Just send me an e-mail and we’re in business.

  • Rbrauchle

Regis got screwed……in the end….in entertainment and sports……all the vet’s get screwed. Kelly does nothing for me…nor do her “revolving” co hosts.

  • Terri

I agree with Kelly and Mark that being together on the show every day would be difficult. That being said, they are great together. I vote for continuing the “Guest Co-Host” concept. This keeps the show very fresh. Just make sure to include Mark in the rotation. In addition to coming across as a very happy couple, they send, I believe, a good message about marriage.

  • Flo

I loved Regis on the show. Since he has been gone I don’t watch it any more.

  • Mary Novelli

I love Kelli! She is the wittiest female on TV and needs a strong man to make her laugh the way Regis did. I like her best with Jerry O’Connell and Josh Grobin. Someone needs to crack her up.

  • Mike

Thank god, who needs to see them kiss each other when they are on. You never saw regis and Joy do that. Don’t even watch the show when they host!! GROW UP!!!!!

  • Heather

I think Kelly is doing a great job doing the show on her own. The guest co-host thing is nice… the variety is a good thing! My grandfather used to say “if it isn’t broke — don’t fix it!” I have loved Kelly since her early days on All My Children.

  • Helen

The best co-host to work with Kelly Ripa would be Neil Patrick Harris.
He’s bright, knowledgeable and has a pleasant personality.

  • Sara

Josh Grobin is the best replacement. He has a great chemistry with Kelly
