Kate Gosselin: Jon Didn’t Give Consent For SpecialBy: Amanda Crum - March 21, 2014
Kate Gosselin and her 8 children will be appearing in a special for TLC this summer that will show us how much the kids have grown since we saw them last, and she says they’re all excited to have the cameras back in the house.
“They cheered like crazy. It was like I announced that it’s Christmas tomorrow,” Kate said. “Our crew walked in and it was like they had never left.”
But dad Jon has very different feelings, according to a “source” at Us Weekly, and didn’t give his consent for the kids to appear on the show.
“He thinks it is a really bad idea for his kids,” the source said. “Jon feels he has his kids’ best interest at heart.”
While it’s not clear whether Kate needed Jon’s permission to do the special, the couple have been at odds for years now since their split, and Jon famously sat down for an interview with Oprah last year in which he said he and his ex don’t agree on anything.
“At this point, there is no cooperation, there is nothing, There’s two different totally parenting styles, two different totally everythings. Which is a shame, because it affects me, but it really affects my children,” he said.
Jon also said he fears his children–twins Mady and Cara and sextuplets Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel, Collin, and Aeden–have developmental problems from being on camera for so many years and not being able to connect with their peers. Kate, however, says that is ridiculous.
“I find it very heart breaking that my children’s father chooses a public forum to discuss his current opinions of the “development” of our children. These opinions are, in reality, value judgements made about our children and they are based on his limited visits (albeit mutually agreed upon) with our children. Because he has spoken negatively about our children, I feel I owe it to them to respond on their behalf. Each and every one of our children has met and continues to exceed all physical, mental and emotional developmental milestones throughout their lives. Their normal development is regularly monitored by myself, their pediatrician and school staff, as is usual within any family,” she wrote, in part, on her blog.
The special episode will air on TLC in June.
