Jodi Arias, the young woman accused of murdering her boyfriend in a jealous rage in 2008, was read a verdict today deciding her fate: guilty of first degree murder, both felony and pre-meditated.

Arias initially told the jury that a masked intruder killed Travis Alexander, but during the course of her 18-day testimony, she changed her story to that of a battered woman who’d had enough. She admitted to killing Alexander, but says she did it in self defense after he tackled her in a violent rage. He was found about a week after he died with 30 stab wounds, a shot to the head, and his throat slit from ear to ear.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez has been asking the jury for a verdict of first degree murder, which would carry a possible death sentence for Arias.

“The state is asking that you return a verdict of guilty, a verdict of first degree murder, not just premeditated murder, but also felony murder, for no other reason than it’s your duty, and the facts and the law support it,” Martinez said in his closing arguments on Friday.

The members of the courtroom looked visibly tense today as the verdict was read. Arias appeared calm until the verdict came down, her chin trembling as her emotions took over.

The court will re-convene tomorrow for the next phase of the trial, in which she will learn what her sentence is.

Jodi, you are a true AMerican hero. Men are violent and disgusting pigs, and you did what many many women SHOULD be doing. Fuck Travis and his family, theyre pigs.

are you crazy? every piece of evidence shows that she did it and it wasnt out of self defense. there is NOTHING heroic about what she did. you should think about if it was your family member that was brutally killed with 27 stab wounds and gunshot wounds and an almost decapitated head. you deffinitely would NOT be on jodi’s side

You are seriously defending this woman for brutally killing her boyfriend, and then labeling *men* as the violent ones? You have a serious issue with perspective lady.

Well done PHillis. I am pleased to see you have overcome your low IQ, as shown by your comment, and have learnt to read and write. Now all we need to do is overcome your penis envy, and you will be in good shape.

She got a fair verdict, hope she gets the death penalty,I know she will just grow old on death row but at least maybe she will think of her heinous crime more often.

  • June

She finally admitted she killed him. I don’t believe in the death penalty. I think she should get life in prison without parole so
she has to think of what she did until the day she dies.

And then tax payers have to pay for her to continue to live….eff that kill the man killer and rid this country of her

  • caren wierenga

i do believe in the death penalty, and cannot think of anyone who may deserve it more. no appeals, straight to it, and stop the financial drain on this country’s economic status.

I’m happy for the Alexander family….not that it brings Travis back or really does anything for them but I hope that it, at least, gives them a bit of peace. He sounds as if he was such a great person to all of his friends…none of them had anything bad to say about him. It’s just a shame that he had the bad luck to meet Jody Arias. I’m so glad that she was found guilty. She decided on the guilty decision for herself when she decided to murder Travis. And I believe that she’s deserved the death penalty…you don’t do everything that she did and sit in a cell for the rest of your life; that would be too easy. I hope that the jurors don’t feel guilty about the verdict; she made the decision for them. Don’t whine about it, Jodi…Travis took what you dished out…you’re no better. Actually, you’re nowhere nearly as good as he was.

After the verdict she says she wants the death penalty. Everyone says she’s bluffing. If she really wants it then tomorrow her defense lawyer should offer no defense at all….we’ll see.

    • AllForJustice

i agreee fully. if that is what she wants then i believe she should get it. being that she deserves it than she should have her choice. i cant think of anyone in any other case that deserves the death penalty any more than her.
