Over the years, Ian Fleming’s James Bond has been portrayed as a heterosexual man who loves to drink and chase after women. The stereotype was challenged recently, when Bond actor Pierce Brosnan was asked in an interview with Details, if there is any possibility of seeing a gay James Bond in cinemas soon.
The actor who starred in four Bond films said, "Sure. Why not?”

While Brosnan is open to see a gay James Bond, he admitted he has no idea if the producers are up for it. “ Actually, I don't know how it would work. I don't think Barbara [Broccoli] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.” The veteran actor portrayed Bond in Golden Eye, Die another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough. The idea of a gay James Bond sure is another step away from the typical portrayal of the iconic secret agent. Brosnan, who supports a gay Bond said he wants to see a black actor to play Bond in the near future.
“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond," the 62-year-old former Bond actor said. "Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence.”
Recently, it has been rumored that English actor Idris Elba is one of the strong contenders to play Bond but the actor denied all the rumors as Daniel Craig is set to do two more Bond films. Meanwhile, David Oyelowo was cast for a Bond audio-book.
The idea of changing Bond’s sexuality gained different reactions on social media. Although people are curious to see a black actor play Bond, it would still take time for a gay Bond to appear on screen.
