So yeah, Riley Cooper at the Kenny Chesney concert happened, and it appears as if the Internet is currently tripping over its collective self in an effort to respond. In case you missed it, the wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles had an incredibly stupid screw up during the show, and naturally, it was captured on video and posted for the world to see. Cooper’s mistake? Saying he would hop over a fence and “fight every nigger here.” While it may be true, as pointed out by Deadspin commenter pkellen2313, there probably weren’t very many people you can apply that derogatory term to attending the Kenny Chesney concert, that really doesn’t let Cooper off the hook, at least in the eyes of a social media-addicted culture that explodes like a volcano when something controversial happens in sports.

Before that, however, the video that’s currently burning up the social media charts:

Who knows? Maybe it was Cooper’s beer doing the talking, but then again, this isn’t the kind of screw up where you can make excuses and it goes away. It seems like Cooper is well aware of that, at least according to his Twitter account:

What these consequences will be remains to be seen, especially considering the freshness of the story. Will the Eagles cut Cooper? If so, will he ever find another job in a league with workforce that is almost 70 percent African-American? Furthermore, will these teammates be accepting of someone who mouthed off like that? Granted, the theme in the NFL seems to be as long as the player gets things done on the field, allowances will be made. Of course, what allowances do opposing defenses have to make when they have a free shot on someone who was so careless and cast themselves in an incredibly racist light?

As for Cooper, he’s taking an absolute beating on Twitter. An example:

It’s not been a good day for ole Riley.

What the guy said was wrong. With that being said you can probably go to any rap concert and hear the “N” word all night long…. Why is it ok for an African American to call another the “N” word and not a Damn thing happens… After seeing the video and notice there’s nothing around Riley but cracker’s, oh excuse me white people, I came help thinking the word was used loosely..

    • Lajuan

cuz it like talking about yourself

  • Name

Blacks use the N-word all the time and contrary to popular belief, blacks are just as racist as whites. Shhhh…. don’t tell anyone…. it might ruin the illusion this country is running on.

Go down to your local gym and watch a group of black guys playing basketball. You will here the n-word a thousand times. Start videotaping that and put it on youtube.

    • cheeesecake

it wont work cuz its like talking to yourself I’m stablemoon8 and black

Blacks don’t use the same word; the word they use has a different meaning. You would never here a black person calling another black person a N!gger. It would never happen unless its being used in a derogatory way.

He is wrong. The use of the “n” word by anyone is wrong. To bring up blacks as “secret racist” is ignorant and making an excuse for Coopers behavior. The history of African Americans in this country has a lot of pain and struggle throughout it. Which is why when anyone from another race using it has a lot more pain behind it and evokes such a passionate response. That being said it does not in anyway shape or form excuse the black community for using such a derogatory and pain inflicting word in their vocabulary. But to use “black peoples” use of the N word to minimize the seriousness of this situation is wrong and in some ways making an excuse for the behavior. As a country no racial slur should be deemed as acceptable or minimized when used because regardless of where or who is using it is wrong. Until we as a society realize and accept that then this is bound to happen again.

I wish people could understand that black people don’t use the work N!gger, its N!gga. Two different words and they mean two different things. N!gger is use to put down a people just so one can feel that they have more power or prestige. However,
N!gga, means various things: brother, friend, enemy but never used as a form of a power trip.

I have no problem with a white guy using the N word if we are friend I know where his heart is at but if you’re using it saying that a black man is less then you or just racially yes there’s a problem and I’m a Gator fan I love Riley Cooper and I’m black and I use that word sometimes I call black and white people that word so I hope he was just using it without a color involved

Cave n!@@er riley cooper will get his brain caved in this year in the NFL. Throw some extra kicks and stomps in when tackling this mayonnaise monkey for good measure.
