Halo 4 Tweets Foreshadowed Conan O’Brien & Andy Richter In-Game Voices
The tweets sent out yesterday by Halo 4 insiders about the “big” Halo 4 news to be revealed on Conan last night turned out to be slightly tongue-in-cheek. Though the big announcement that Halo 4 will launch on November 6th was announced yesterday, the announcement came before the Conan show aired. What, then, was the news?
Conan and his sidekick, Andy Richter, will be providing voice talent for the much-anticipated video game. The duo revealed this “big” news in a comedy segment on Conan last night. You can see the footage below, in which Conan and Richter poke fun at the game design of Halo 4 and the players who will play it. Conan seems most worried throughout the video that players would seek out his character in-game specifically to kill him. Its a sentiment he followed up about with a tweet:
Using actors or comedians for voice work in video games is nothing new. In fact, I spent a great deal of time crossing a lake in Halo 2 with a character voiced by actor and comedian David Cross tossing out quips incessantly. So, the addition of Conan to the game will most likely be an easter egg for players to enjoy. That is, unless it was all just a joke for the show. I’m betting, though, that since Conan and Richter were already in the recording studio at least a couple of their lines will end up in the final game. I suspect the comedy segment was planned after the voice acting roles were confirmed.
For my part, I’ve obviously been missing out on some good comedy since Conan left network television. The return of Andy Richter to the show provides the classic feel of very early Late Night with Conan O’brien episodes. The duo perfectly demonstrate how good they are together by playing off of each other while “voice acting” for Halo4.
