Although Google is not going to the lengths that Wikipedia is to show their opposition to SOPA and PIPA, they have nonetheless joined the effort with what could be called their most spartan Google Doodle ever.

When you visit Google you’re met with this, a giant black censor bar over the Google logo. The only part of the logo barely visible is the bottom of the second “g.”

Clicking on the logo or the link just under the logo takes you to a SOPA / PIPA landing page that displays these words:

Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.
Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late.

The page also gives you the option to sign a petition against the legislation. Just enter your name, email address and zip code and you can join the fight. After this, Google asks you to share the petition on Google+, Facebook and Twitter.

Blacking out their logo as opposed to shutting down their whole service might be seen as a small measure, but with the amount of people viewing Google.com daily, it is bound to make an impact.

Bad idea SOPA. It will bad for movies and music industry because piracy are very important for some artist to be known worldwide. I’m living in Africa. This law will affect our way of life here in Africa too. We don’t have theaters and it’s almost impossible to buy DVD here and to subscribe on ” legal” website. Africans doesnt have bank accounts and are very poor. We need piracy movies in Africa, not because we watch movies for free but because we love that movies and it’s our only way to see them. If we could see movies legally it shouldn’t be a problem but things are not like that.

Google’s doodle is cool but I think Wikipedi has made one step forward and closed their English part of the website. It’s a brave step

How could the government consider censoring the internet which is obviously the greatest expression of our 1st admendment right? Everyone has noticed that people are more willing to say what they really want to say because of the anonymity of the web. Then again if you think about it nobody will be surprised to find out that there are hipocritical politcians that want to hide behind the constitution and then disregard it when it suits them.

This must be STOPPED!!!!! Main Stream Media is bought and paid for as well as most of our politicians by Corporate Fascists who signed NDAA National Defense Authorization Act (Allows Martial Law and Americans to be detained Indefinitly!!!!! Blows our civil liberties apart! It was signed by Obama on New Years Eve! Happy New Year from our President. Goes into effect March 3rd if people don’t reverse it!!!
Now SOPA/ PIPA is the next step to control information and People. Wake up America and the World!!!

I commend all the websites that are participating in this blackout. The censorship will not just stop at pirating sites.History has taught us that if you give the government and big business an inch they will take a mile.
