Fantasia: Gay Marriage Comments Rile Up Web

By: Amanda Crum - January 2, 2013

“American Idol” alum Fantasia Barino has a lot of angry fans on her hands after some comments she made on her Instagram account regarding gay marriage went viral.

Barino, while on a rant about the things the media says about her, wrote, “I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” she wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

The “Lose To Win” singer immediately drew the attention of her rather large gay fanbase, prompting her reps to release a statement in order to do damage control.

“Comments made by Ms. Barrino through her Instagram account were recently taken far out of context, and the purpose of this release is to set the record straight,” read the statement. “Ms. Barrino is not now, nor has she ever been an opponent of the LGBT community. She has supported and performed at numerous events that are sponsored by the LGBT community. Whether it’s through a live performance or placement on social media, Ms. Barrino uses every opportunity to reach out and connect with her fans, all of her fans.”

Barino herself issued a statement–which was not quite an apology–and said her words were twisted by bloggers.

“It has been brought to my attention that something I said was taken out of context,” she wrote. “I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

Despite her assessment of the situation, it seems she’s turned a lot of fans away with her words.

Marriage was constituted by God, like it or not. It was intended for a man and a woman, not for the same sexes. Read the bible, God don’t like homos and he don’t like lesbians. So get married if you want and make it legal, because to God it don’t mean a thing. He’s still going to condemned you just the same, not because I say so but because his word says so.

Greg, I’m not even sure how to respond to what you said, it made 0 sense.

The speaker; 5 words: Separation of Church and State. Marriage is the joining of two people according to the Government, Churches are just the traditional place to hold weddings. According to your argument all weddings not held in a Church, by Atheists, Agnostics, and all non-Christians would be considered null and void, which infringes on the right to freedom of religion. Therefore, if one allows non-Christian marriage, it only makes sense to allow non-Heterosexual marriage
