Old Spice made a huge splash, and I would argue is still making a splash, in online advertising with their amazing Old Spice Guy ads. A new company is here with an even more ridiculous premise and an even more awesome ad.

Say hello to the Dollar Shave Club. They are an online company founded by two guys with a vision – defy “Big Shave” companies. They found that a razor didn’t need “a vibrating handle, LED guide-lights, 8-blades and a grip that could steady a 9-iron.”

They did something about this travesty and formed a partnership with a blade manufacturer to create a number of blades that features the three essentials of a good razor: “stainless steel blades, lubrication bars, and pivoting heads.”

Interested parties can get blades delivered to their door every month for as little as $1 per month. The first shipment includes the grip. If you want to, you can even pay a bit more a month to get four or six blade heads.

The ad is the real selling point of this new company, however, with an advertisement that is clearly influenced by the Old Spice Guy ads. The key difference is that Old Spice Guy ads had to also be approved for television, whereas this one does not. What you get is a magical journey through one man’s razor warehouse.

    Their ad is F#*cking amazing! I can’t tell you how many people I have forwarded this video to around my office, fb, email you name it. The ad is purely entertaining.

    I like the premise and their business model which should scare the Gillette’s of the world. There are going to more of these start-ups coming down the pike.
