Borderlands 2 Limited and Collector Editions RevealedBy: Sean Patterson - May 17, 2012
Gaming news this month seems to be only one of two things: delays or pre-order announcements. Fans of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands will be happy to learn that today’s news is some of the latter.
Just one day after Halo 4’s Limited Edition was detailed, two different, upgraded pre-order packages were revealed for Borderlands 2. The Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector’s Edition, seen below, comes with a hardbound art book, a map of Pandora, a comic book download, four stickers, and a Marcus Kincaid bobblehead doll. The collector’s edition will retail for $100.
The Ultimite Loot Chest Limited Edition, seen above, includes all of the materials in the collectors edition and adds a SteelBook case, a numbered certificate of authenticity, a Creatures of Pandora wide-format ID chart, four lighograph postcards, and a cloth mat of Pandora. The Limited Edition will sell for $150.
Gamers who purchase either of these editions from “participating retailers” will also be inducted into the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, the members of which gain access to early downloadable content (DLC). Members can download the Gearbox Gun Pack, a collection of unique starting weapons; a Golden Key, which unlocks the Golden Sanctuary Loot Chest containing a rare in-game item; the Vault Hunter’s Relic, which increases a players’ “gear-hunting fortune”; and the new Mechromancer Class, once it is available as DLC. The participating retailers have not yet been disclosed.
Borderlands 2 will be available on September 18 in the U.S. and September 21 internationally. A standard copy of Borderlands 2 retails for $60 and is already available for pre-order. There is no word yet, thankfully, about retailer-specific pre-order bonuses.
Gearbox seems to be providing plenty of swag for hard-core collectors, while not allowing these more expensive editions carry a person through the game. And with minimal player-versus-player interactions in the Borderlands games, players will probably cut them some slack on the improved starting weapons and the whatever the rare Golden Key item might be.
