Aliens: Colonial Marines Gets Amazing Collector’s EditionBy: Zach Walton - May 31, 2012
Gearbox has nailed what makes a Collector’s Edition truly collectable. The two versions of the Collector’s Edition for Borderlands 2 are pretty amazing. I thought there could be nothing better until they revealed the Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector’s Edition.
The image you see above is the Collector’s Edition in all of its glory. As you can see, the highlight of the entire thing is the Powerloader resin statue. Anybody who is a fan of Aliens knows how awesome (and terrifying) it would be a fight a Xenomorph matriarch inside one of those things. That’s not the only thing players who drop a cool $99.99 on the set are going to get either.
Players will also have access to four playable characters from the film – Private Hudson, Corporal Hicks, Private Drake and Sergeant Apone. You also get access to Ripley’s flamethrower which we all know is the best flamethrower to ever exist in science fiction.
On top of all of that, it includes a USCM dossier that includes information from the game including a mission brief, USS Sephora schematic, recruitment card, LV-426 Recon Photo, USCM Iron-on Badges and a USCM graduation certificate. Sure, it all seems pretty superfluous, but my inner child would love to pretend to be a USCM cadet.
Players who get the Collector’s Edition will also secure themselves some exclusive content that wil probably be sold as DLC later down the road. It includes two weapons for multiplayer – the Sonic Electronic Ball Breakers and the Phase Plasma Rifle. They will also get an exclusive level titled the USCM Academy Firing Range.
If the Collector’s Edition is a little too rich for your blood, GameStop has some exclusive pre-order bonuses to make up for it. You will get access to the four playable characters from the film alongside Ripley’s flamethrower.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will launch on February 12, 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Unfortunately, the Collector’s Edition is only available to those who buy the game on consoles. Sega has moved their American PC publishing business to digital only. It remains to be seen if the Wii U version of the title releasing later in 2013 will also see a Collector’s Edition.
