Adam Sessler And G4 Part Ways

It could be argued that G4 is a shell of its former self and many people would agree with you. One of the few decent things that G4 is still airing would be X-Play. Unfortunately, it looks like that too is going down the drain with host Adam Sessler’s departure.

Kotaku broke the news today that Adam Sessler, host of X-Play since 1998 when it was called Extended Play, will be leaving the show and the network. Here’s what Sessler’s representative had to say on the issue:

Television personality Adam Sessler and TV network G4 are parting ways, with Adam’s last episode as host of G4’s “X-Play” airing on the network today, Wednesday, April 25. Adam has been hosting the show since it first aired as ZDTV’s “Gamespot TV” in July 1998 and he also served as Editor In Chief of games content at G4. His current projects include starring as himself in the Summer 2012 movie “noobz” and consulting with a film production company on theatrical feature adaptations of video games. Adam intends to stay in front of the camera and continue as a key voice within the games industry. He also sings and is available for weddings and bar mitzvahs.

What does this mean for X-Play now? I would assume not much except for Morgan Webb getting far more screen time than should be allowed. I’m sure they’ll pick up somebody else as well to fill in for the usual high energy antics of Sessler.

According to Kotaku’s sources, the departure was no good terms. It’s said that Sessler is leaving the network due to a contractual dispute.

The real travesty here is that G4’s coverage of E3 is really going to suck this year. Sessler has been one of the few bright spots in G4’s usually awful E3 coverage. He’s one of the few people on the network who seemed to legitimately care about gaming. It’s sad to see him go. Although, I am interested in his desire to get into film adaptation of video games.

Twitter has already exploded with the news with fans sad to see him go.

Now that Adam Sessler is out, I’d like to extend my hand to host at G4. My hair is thinning and I hate modern gaming. Lets do this. 3 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

I hope Adam Sessler continues his soapbox bits in a different name. I love hearing his thoughts on games and the industry. 8 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the last blip of a heartbeat finally dying on G4.

TechTV was awesome. It is a shame it was ahead of its time and had to sell out/merge with G4.

Extended Play/X-Play was at its peak with Adam Sessler and Kate Botello. They both came off as people who legitimately loved games.

Morgan Webb turned out to be a total poseur who got way too obsessed with her temporary “Kournikova effect.” She’s about as much of a gamer as I am a ballet dancer.

I hope Adam Sessler is able to move on to new projects that will bring him the attention and notoriety he deserves.

There is no doubt that Adam Sessler was an advocate of games and gemers. The industry will sorely miss him, I hope he does stay close to the industry. He can and may still be the shining light in a dim and bleak world. Hopefully, she can shed some light on the rest of the world about us gamers.

As for G4tv, it is still possible to recover. It is always darkest right before the light. G4tv literally needs to recover and start to shine again or it might be a lights out. G4tv, I think, is something the gaming industry needs and gamers need. We need mroe stations and programs like them. Afterall, gaming makes how much a year? SHOOT Call of Duty (a game I dont like anymore), makes how much a year and yet most television shows and news places treat it worse than dirt.

I still think the gaming industry needs an organization or a spokesperson to shine the light on gaming. Of course, I also believe the industry needs to grow a bit more too… However, getting back on the topic of the Sess… GOOD LUCK TO YOU ADAM!

Let’s all be honest here, XPlay has not been that good for years now. It’s full of unfunny jokes and childish crap. Sessler is better off leaving and doing other things. Kevin P was also a great host on aots. I only watch AOTH on Tuesdays for DVDuesday, so I’m sure I will still watch. But it will never be as good without Kevin. He had this natural quality.
