Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller is pregnant again despite a dangerous battle with ovarian cancer which almost took away her ability to conceive again.
Miller, the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympics history, gave birth to son Rocco three years ago. But shortly after he was born, she discovered she suffered from a rare disorder involving her ovaries.
“Instead of calling my parents to tell them they had another grandchild on the way, I was calling to tell them I may have cancer. Our baby plans were put on hold indefinitely,” she said.
After a painful ordeal which included surgery and several weeks of chemotherapy, Miller and her husband found out they were to be blessed a second time around. The athlete says this baby is a “miracle child” and is ecstatic to be able to be a new mom again after so many months of doubt.
“I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to do some amazing things in my life, but being a mom is second to none,” she wrote on her site.
