Last week, Reddit announced Reddit Gold, a paid version of its service that would cost whatever users were willing to pay. This was essentially Reddit’s way of asking for donations to help with its operating costs, and giving those donors a little something extra.
It didn’t take long for Reddit to declare the initiative a triumph, saying, "We’re getting a much-needed cash infusion."
Now Reddit already has over 9,000 subscribers for Reddit Gold. Subscribers now have access to new features like "Choose-your-own ad venture, userpage sorting, and "friends with benefits." These features are explained in detail by the company here.
Reddit has decided to set the price at $3.99 a month, saying they wanted to keep it under a dollar a week. After next week, they’re going to offer a discount bulk rate of $29.99 a year (or $2.49 a month).
Those that already signed up get prorated, and an extra two months free.
