The life of a Hollywood A-List actress is not all wine and roses. It’s all about time and money on a film set, so hours are long and arduous. In a recent interview with contactmusic.com, Keira Knightley said that she doesn’t have any sort of a personal life while she works on a film and finds it difficult to spend time with friends.
Knightley spoke about her extreme schedule, “When I’m not working it’s really about seeing as many friends as possible and making sure I’m there in their lives. The way I work is extreme. You can’t really have a personal life if you’re working on films all the time. There’s Skype, but, really, there’s just no way of doing it.” She added, “The hours are so long, you’re always in a different country, you’re always doing a different thing.”
The 29-year-old actress makes maintaining friendships a priority when she’s not working, “It becomes very important to block out some time when I don’t work and that’s how I retain friendships, otherwise people just float. You kind of become somebody who is rudderless.”
In addition to her film work, Knightley is still considered a newlywed. She married James Righton, a vocalist and keyboard player for the London-based indie rock band The Klaxons, last May. The wedding was a small private ceremony with just eleven guests that took place on a hilltop in southern France.
The busy actress is currently looking into playing a role in the adaptation for the Michael Knight book The Typist, which is a work of historical fiction that chronicles the politics of the Pacific Theater circa WWII. Knightley said of the adaptation, “The lovely people at Fox (Studios) are kindly trying to develop for me. My agents found it and gave it to me to read. It has two really good female roles in it, so we shall see.”
