In addition to announcing its acquisition of Aviate at CES, Yahoo announced the launch of Yahoo News Digest, Yahoo Tech and Yahoo Food.

Yahoo News Digest is an iOS app that delivers “the most important news” twice a day to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Here’s a look:

The company also launched its new tech site Yahoo Tech and a new food site Yahoo Food.

David Pogue, who joined Yahoo late last year, introduces Yahoo Tech in a blog post.

Yahoo has been adding a lot of high profile hires (including Pogue) to Yahoo News in recent months. This week, they added Daniel Klaidman as deputy editor. Tech journalist Rafe Needleman is also part of Yahoo Tech now.

Yahoo Digest is quite cool. Nice evolution of Summly. But I still prefer “Simply News”, which is even easier to use, but offers more choice. And the summaries of Simply are better, as far as I can tell.
