Chances are most of you who read news online have heard about the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act. Well, it was recently announced that Wikipedia would institute a blackout in protest of SOPA & PIPA.

As you might expect, the blackout caught some completely off guard and struggling to finish homework assignments. Many have turned to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the blackout and Wikipedia in general.

Check out some of the better ones below, some are quite comical:

Here’s what I think about it: Poor Wikipedia. They are a nonprofit group and the people who write for it do so because they care about the topics on there…too bad some bored idiots edit their work to make it nonsense. Wikipedia relies on a sense of civic duty to exist. It isn’t a free government service. I don’t feel sorry for all these kids because first, they are NOT owed Wikipedia; it’s a nonprofit and there are plenty of other sources out there, especially PRINTED ones in libraries, and secondly, having been through undergrad and being a grad student and former college teacher myself, I can tell you that rule number one in a college environment is DO NOT USE WIKI as a source. You can find that in any English handbook, or basic level research assignment. Besides, studying for a paper properly begins in plenty of time before an assignment to allow the writer or presenter to not “freak out” if he or she runs into setbacks with a source. And, shouldn’t students know their ways around PRINT sources and college libraries better. Otherwise, why in the heck is the government putting money into maintaining the state university libraries? So kids can ignore their databases? Ignore the common academic rule not to use Wikis, and sit in their rooms doing homework reliant on Wiki the night before? Very revealing—just another sad thing in Education that needs to change. The last thing that breaks my heart about this is seeing how free people feel to shout out their every frustration online, like opening a window on the street and yelling, instead of developing better personal character, patience, responsibility, and the ability to be flexible when setbacks arise. That is what Education is about, not cramming and complaining when crutches fail. I did that, too. Now, I know better. Last of all, kids today could stand to stop letting OMG the F word and incomplete sentence structures stand in for calm intelligent written and spoken English. Only people who really care about education and can return a favor with good manners deserve to have a free source like Wikipedia available to them, anyway.

Very true, and while Wikipedia is a VERY good resource, there are tons more websites in existance.
