Whitney Houston Funeral: Westboro Baptist Church Threatens Picketing, Tweets God’s Hate [Updated]
[ Business]

Update: It sounds like this didn’t actually happen, and that WBC is using Twitter to manipulate the media. NJ.com reports:

Star-Ledger reporters on the scene said access to that area had been restricted all day, and confirmed no active protests were occurring in the place depicted in the photograph.

Westboro Baptist Church threatened to Whitney Houston’s funeral today. Shocker.

You may recall when they said they would picket Steve Jobs’ funeral. Then Penn State football coach Joe Paterno’s. While covering Twitter reaction to Whitney’s funeral today, we stumbled across some tweets from old Margie Phelps, a top member of the church, spreading god’s hate:

You all lied to her;now she’s in hell; too late to pray @llcoolj

Clearly they love the attention. We’re not helping that any, but they’re going to get it regardless. People should know what these people are doing.

Interestingly enough, Kevin Costner (Whitney’s co-star in The Bodyguard), who spoke at the service, said that one thing he and Whitney had in common was that they both grew up in the Baptist church. Much of the Twitterverse is talking about how the funeral is bringing everyone together, spreading god’s love and whatnot.

Um, sorry to break the news, but WBC is NOT in Newark. You can’t see the obviously bad photoshopping in that pic?? Not to mention it’s right IN FRONT of the church, in the middle of an 8-block restricted area. Just another example of how pathetic these beasts are. They know people will believe just about anything on twitter.

  • Giovanne

Fuck Westboro and every one apart of that stupid shit. It’s people like them that we still have hate in this country. Mind your business and for every ones sake, shove your signs up your asses and see how you feel about that Westboro! I hope shit does pop off because I would be coming to look for your stupid asses first! Now put that on a sign you!

  • Taj

Yup, that picture is photoshopped. Don’t think they were actually there either. So this “church” who represents themselves in God’s name are lying and misleading people?? Not very holy-like… Idiot in-breads.

    • Dickhead

“thou shalt not bear false witness”
For self-proclaimed prophets of God’s Commandments, they sure dun goofed that up.

  • Terrence G. Morgan

I thing every American has the right to protest for their point of view. Whether I like it or not. With that being said. It must not infringe on someone else personal liberty. Be able to have a funeral for any love one is more important then some idiot leader trying to get shock effect for their cause. Now they have millions of more people against them.

  • M Scott

I can’t imagine ANY “Higher Power” ever agreeing with the hatered preached by WBC. These are some seriously twisted cult people that should be watched carefully before they go off and physically hurt people that disagree with them.

  • Ben R.Joyce

Whitney was a faithful Christian once who feared God.Later she sold her soul to Satan for idolatry, music, alcohol, witchcraft, and adultery.God killed her and cast her soul into Hell.Yes,God is not mocked,Galatians 6:7 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.People of Westboro Baptist Church did a good mission of charity warning others not to go apostate as Whitney was.

    • Tiff

In the Bible it says to Judge not lest ye also be judged. Overtly critisizing someone else’s lifestyle and posing as if you have no flaws not only makes you a hypocrite, but also one destined for the very place you’re trying to place someone else within. The point is to show the Christian way, not the way you rationalize as being “the Way”.

    • adibese

This is why I hate religions. Nothing more that the promotion of hate and fear. Why would you want to spend eternity with an asshole god, anyways?

  • Joy N

If they truly believed in a higher power and what they preach, they would be shaking in their boots at the thought of what lay ahead for them after death. a God like theirs would have special plans for them. There is no belief, only mental illness and the need for attention.

Westboro Baptist Church spreads its hate through picketing in our streets, provoking attacks, with abusive language and flag desecration, attempting to create a confrontation. This is not a church, this is a hate group. This is not about protesting, freedom, or God. They are in it for the money and the press; this is a family law firm. They are not a “church.” It is a scam. They go after anything that can get them in the news. This is a family of lawyers using this “god hates you” thing to make money. It is time for this scam and the hate to end.
The church has received money from lawsuits and legal fees. For example, they sued the city of Topeka several times in the 1990s. WBC received $16,500, and is pursuing another $100,000, in legal fees for a case won in court. The WBC is considered a nonprofit organization by the federal government, and is therefore exempt from paying taxes!
Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church is shown admitting on camera that her oldest son was born out of wedlock. Hypocritical Phelps-Roper’s vocal condemnation on strangers having sexual congress outside of marriage while she herself was guilty of the same. They are NOT what they say they are!!
