Verizon said today it has stopped pre-order online orders for the iPhone 4 to its existing customers after the most successful first day of sales in the history of the company.

“This was an exciting day," said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon Wireless.

Dan-Mead "In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story. It is gratifying to know that our customers responded so enthusiastically to this exclusive offer – designed to reward them for their loyalty.”

Verizon did not offer any specific sales figures of the iPhone 4, but analyst Mike Abraksky with RBC Capital Markets, estimated that pre-order sales were likely less than 100,000.

The general launch of the iPhone 4 on Verizon will happened on February 10. The company will open its retail outlets at 7 a.m. It will also be available at all Apple store locations, Best Buy. Select Walmart stores, and online at Verizon and Apple.

I think the only issue I have with Verizon offering the iPhone 4 is that in July they will be selling the iPhone 5 (according to internet rumors). Fortunately or unfortunately, I can’t upgrade until Oct. I hope by then the iPhone 5 is available and the bugs removed.

I am holding out for the iPhone 5. Hope it really is coming out in July. I have an iPhone 3gs. Would of loved to have the 4 for the flash but I just think that they should of had the flash for the camera when they rolled out with the second version of the phone( actually the first version). How basic is flash for a camera..

I think that all these companies play on we all want the best, the upgrades so they leave something out. To be honest I like the iPhone I have. They are not getting my money so quickly. Maybe I will wait for the iPhone 6……. :)

It makes sense that the iPhone would be a hot commodity for Verizoners. iPhone has always been the cool kid on the block, and only AT&T was allowed to offer it. Now iPhone lovers get the shiny device AND decent reception.

I’m still calling it hype. Comparing the iphone to any single android device, it always comes out on top. We all knew the iphone would sell more on launch day than the original droid or the Incredible or Droid X. Of course there are a considerable number of people ready to jump on a Verizon iphone, we knew this. I suspect 85% of the day’s sales were in the first two hours and the total number sold is 1/4 of what ATT sold on the first day of their iphone 4 launch. I think that the demand is now satisfied for the most part and don’t think for a second they ran out of stock, rather sales dwindled. It’s called a ‘take-away’ in sales parlance.

When it lands in stores next week (wait i thought it was sold out?), we’ll see more vague reports of record sales. Verizon broke up the launch to allow for different skewed comparisons.
