It’s been a big week for Twitter’s mobile presence. First, the company unveiled updates to its Android and iOS apps, bringing more desktop features to the mobile experience.
Then, as reported, Twitter and MediaTek announced a partnership to make Twitter integrated into MediaTek’s mobile platform solutions, and bring Twitter functionality to more feature phones.
Speaking of feature phones, Twitter has put out a blog post talking about the recent redesign for mobile.twitter.com for feature phones and older browsers.
“We completely overhauled this client from the ground up, a process that resulted in a lighter-weight, faster client that looks and feels like twitter.com and our mobile apps,” says Twitter designer Coleen Baik. “The app was overdue for an update on many fronts and we took the opportunity to refresh it inside and out.”
Here’s what it looks like:
“On the top level, we brought the user interface in line with the new version of Twitter that we launched back in December, so you can enjoy a consistent experience on any device,” says Baik. “Under the hood, we completely overhauled the view layer for our RAILS backend, with new mustache templates and streamlined stylesheets.”
Twitter talks up all the things it was able to accomplish with the redesign, such as pages up to 63% smaller, sessions that were up to 37% smaller, and 63% fewer request (in some views, like profile pages).
