The HTC One X Can Also Be Used As A Hammer
If you’ve been around the Internet for any amount of time, then you’re probably aware of the meme that says Nokia phones are tough as nails. A video came out not too long ago that wanted to prove that quite literally. It featured a Nokia Lumia 900 having a nail hammered into it and then being used as a hammer itself to drive a nail into some wood. It amazingly survived and proved once again that Nokia is the toughest of the bunch.
Not to be outdone by its peer, the new Android-powered HTC One X has taken up the same challenge. Like the Lumia 900, the HTC One X uses Corning’s famous Kentucky-made Gorilla Glass to protect the screen from all sorts of normal everyday occurrences. I don’t think hitting a nail with the screen counts, but you never know what life will throw at you.
As you can see in the two minute video, the HTC One X performs admirably as a hammer. The screen doesn’t take a single scratch and the phone still works perfectly. It makes you wonder why they try to sell screen protectors now that Gorilla Glass is pretty much the only screen protection you’ll ever need.
If you watched both videos, you will notice that the challenge is a little unfair. The Nokia Lumia 900 stood up to actually being hammered with a nail while the HTC One X only played the part of a hammer. I really don’t think it makes much difference as it proves that both screens are made of some of the toughest material around.
It’s worth pointing out that while these phones are pretty tough, you shouldn’t go around hammering loose nails into boards with your phone. Not all phones are created equally and the screen could shatter. If that happens, that extended warranty you paid for won’t amount to anything.[h/t: Reddit]
