Google Cloud Connect May Be Important Piece in Google’s Overall Strategy

Google announced a new feature of Google Docs today, called Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office. The feature comes from Google’s acquisition of DocVese, a company that specialized in the real-time sharing and editing of documents, earlier this year. They paid $25 million for it, and it could turn out to be a huge piece of the puzzle in winning over Microsoft Office users. 

Google Lets Users Sign Up With Yahoo Accounts

Google has announced that it is now using OpenID for its signup process. Yahoo users can sign up for a Google Account with their existing email address. 

Google says that "a much larger number of people" complete the email verification process when OpenID is used.

Earlier this week, it was discovered that Google was letting users sign in to multiple accounts in the same browser, a feature Google has always lacked, that many users have been pining for.

Google Luring More Account Users with New News Feature?

Google News continues to become a much more personalized experience for users. Back in November, the company launched the Custom Sections Directory feature, which lets users set up sections on topics of interest, which they can share with other users.

Now Google has added the ability to star story clusters that are of interest to each user. You use this feature, just as you would star messages in Gmail or stories in Google reader.

Google Remembers it Owns YouTube

Beginning today, people who sign up for YouTube will be given a Google account. Given that Google has owned the popular video service since 2006, it is a little surprising that this happened in the past, but it certainly makes sense that they would do it sooner or later. Note: I am not yet seeing an indication of this news on the YouTube sign up page, but I assume it’s in the process of rolling out.

Google Links AdSense Accounts with Google Analytics

Google is now offering wide availability of Google Analytics and AdSense integration. AdSense publishers who wish to make their site more profitable are going to want to link their AdSense accounts with a Google Analytics account.

To do so, you simply need to log in to AdSense, click the link that says "Integrate your AdSense account with Google Analytics" on the Reports > Overview tab, and follow the on-screen instructions as illustrated in this clip:

Google as a social network has been getting a bit more play recently as they have made certain moves like giving users the ability to create vanity URLs for their profiles.

One wild card that Google has that trumps all other social networks is that it is the largest brand on the web. Furthermore, it is the largest search engine.
