18% Of U.S. Households Have No Internet Access

Around one-fifth of all U.S. households are without an Internet connection and have never used email, according to research firm Parks Associates.An annual phone survey of households by Parks found 20 million households have no Internet access, making up approximately 18 percent of all U.S. households.

More Than 90% Of Email Is Spam

Spam messages in the first quarter of 2008 accounted for 92.3 percent of all email sent according to a new report from Sophos.During this period Sophos found 23,300 new spam related Web pages everyday, or about one every three seconds.For the first time Turkey was in the top three of offending countries sending spam. Compromised computers in Turkey accounted for 5.9 percent of the globe's spam, compared to 3.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Air Force Sends Emails To Wrong Address

The U.S. Air Force has been mistakenly sending emails meant for its base in Mildenhall, England to a local tourism Web site with a similar address.Gary Sinnott launched a Web site in the mid 1990s, www.mildenhall.com to promote his hometown. He soon began receiving emails from members of the U.S. Air Force who were trying to send messages to people at the base located in the town. The email address for those stationed there was mildenhall.af.mil.

Spam emails threatening death by a hit man unless $20,000 is paid are a hoax the FBI said, restating earlier warnings given in January 2007 and December 2006."A new scam cropping up in e-mail boxes across the country is preying not on recipients' greed or good intentions, but on their fears," the FBI said last year.
