Respected Security Expert Becomes ICANN CEO
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it has selected security expert Rod Beckstrom as its new president and CEO. The announcement took place at ICANN's 35th international meeting in Sydney, Australia.
"The importance of the Internet as a free flowing source of information is being underscored right now by the events in Iran," said Beckstrom. "It shows the power of human expression through a free and open Net."
Top CEOs Not Big On Social Media
ÜBERCEO is sharing the results of some research, indicating that social media is not much of a priority among Fortune 100 CEOs. In fact, it's barely existent within their own practices.
Most of these CEOs are not twittering. They're not on Facebook, or even on LinkedIn - the social network, which caters specifically to professional relationships. The study looked at Fortune's 2009 list of the top 100 CEOs to determine how many were using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, or had a blog.
CEOs Split On Social Media Effectiveness
When it comes to social media 29 percent of CEOs believe that social media tools can be an effective way to communicate with stakeholders while an equal amount (29%) believes social media is ineffective according to a survey from PRWeek and PR firm Burson-Marsteller.The survey found that 42 percent of CEOs personally participate in social media outlets, but just 18 percent of CEOs have used social media to engage their company's stakeholders.
Inc. Mag Gets Into Social Networking Space
