New iPad: Twitter Reactions To Apple’s AnnouncementBy: Drew Bowling - March 7, 2012
In the absence of a live-stream feed of Apple’s big announcement today, many people resorted to sites live-blogging the event or Tweeting reactions and updates. In fact, shortly after Tim Cook said that the iPad is the “poster child of the post-PC world,” the term “post-PC” instantly became one of the top trending topics on Twitter.
More, as the presentation led into the new iPad, “Apple TV,” “keynote,” “iOS 5.1,” “Post-PC,” “Retina Display” (probably the first and last time that phrase will trend), “A5X,” “Voice Dictation,” “No Siri,” “Infinity Blade,” “Epic Games,” “Xbox 360 or the PS3,” “#iPad3,” “iPhoto,” “iMovie,” and “Tim Cook” all were phrases used at the conferences and all became top trending topics worldwide on Twitter. With how every single feature became a new trending topic on Twitter, Tim Cook or Mike Capps could probably have repeated “pancake meth cars” and it’d be a trending topic.
What’s more intriguing is how you can almost watch the color of the public’s mood ring change by the end of the announcement. In the beginning, the live-tweets coming from the event were much more excited than the end, where the tweets took on an impatient and sardonic tone. The general consensus also seemed to reflect frustration for the fact that Apple dragged out the presentation without actually sharing the name of the new tablet.
Below is a sample of what some people were saying as the Apple event unfolded.
Now playing video promoting the GCS store. Yep, great. iPad 3/HD/2S announcement please.
The audience gasped as Tim Cook dropped his trousers to show off his own “Post-PC device.”
Apple got all Aol on us with that splash of paint behind the white apple logo in the intro at this iPad HD event
Yep, definitely getting an Apple TV. Had no reason to get one. But when I get iPad 3/HD and when Mountain Lion comes out, it’ll be useful
Cook just said iCloud now supports Movies. Also announced a new Apple TV that can stream 1080p, has a new UI; the device looks the same.
New Apple TV. 1080p. Streamlined user interface.
Dear tech hacks: IT IS NOT AN ACTUAL TV.
Dear ISPs: stop rubbing your hands together.
2047 x 1536 pixel retina display on new iPad 3…that’s more than the 17″ HD macbook pro display i’m typing this on. crazybananas.
The new iPad has 3.1 million pixels; 1 million more than HDTV. 264 pixels per inch. Apple just started and won the device megapixel war.
iPad three will let you make HD movies while still looking stupid recording with a giant smartphone.
Keeping a lot of promises: HD display, 4G LTE, quad-core graphics, voice dictation, better camera… the iPad 3 is hitting rivals hard.
If I can plug an external video output into the new iPad and use that HD screen for video monitoring, sold.
Apple’s live announcements now exactly resemble the totalitarian regime in that 1984 commercial.
Battery life: 10 hours. On the LTE network, 9 hours. Pretty much the same as iPad 2, says Apple.
New iPad is $499 with 3 storage capacities. 16, 32, 64. Available on March 16th. Pre-orders start today.
#iPad3: the 4G devices are not cheap. If you want to enter the post pc era, you have to be rich…
Awesome! Time to Pre-Order The New Ipad 4G HD. Are you ordering too?
I bet if I froze myself now, woke up in 5 years, it still wouldn’t be the “Post-PC” era. Just this years marketing buzzword BS.
So, tweeps, do we reckon Apple will announce a new name for the new iPad? Can’t see it myself…
I swear if Apple demos Angry Birds next I’m turning off the stream.
I’m glad all the iPad apps are already called “HD” because that’s not going to be confusing.
Dying to hear more about new iPad 3 or HD. Who cares what they call it. Might as well just call it the iPad Buy Now.
So this rectal display on the iPad 3, it looks awesome but smells terrible?
OMG, yes, yes, tell us all about the new Apple stuff, you’re the only one who has access to that secret information, hurry, hurry!!!
So is it the iPad 3 or iPad HD. That seems to be the only remaining question
Nothing out of expected for iPad HD. Looks like the rumour mill got it right this time. Next! Wanna see what the iPhone 5 has to offer now.
Not normally the one to nitpick new Apple designs, but those green shelves are grody.
so now we know just about everything regarding the new iPad – except for the name. iPad? iPad HD? iPad 3?
So apparently it is just called the new iPad. Epic journalist troll, Apple.
@OneJaredNewman There’s actually an unpronounceable, invisible symbol after the name: iPad .
A real mix of basic and half-professional editing features with iPad iPhoto. Best new app update so far.
First mention of a new name: ‘Third-generation iPad’
I’m already sick of the iPad 3.
