Netflix May Bring Jericho Back From The Dead
[ Business]

Fans of the post-apocalyptic CBS series Jericho, ready your peanuts – or put down your peanuts. Something involving peanuts. Netflix has apparently approached CBS about brining the cult-favorite to their camp – for some new episodes. And CBS is reportedly considering the offer.

All of this comes courtesy of TV Guide, who says that the fervor of Arrested Development fans and the excitement over its return is what Netflix wants to duplicate with a Jericho resurrection.

Of course, we’re all excited by the return of Arrested Development. We learned last month that all ten episodes of the new season would drop on Netflix at the same time. Fans of the show that have been waiting years for new dispatches from the Bluth’s will get to quench their thirst in one giant marathon viewing session. Could Jericho produce a similar level of excitement?

Of course, we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet. The deal is apparently only in its nascent stages. Both companies have to agree on a financial agreement conducive to their bottom lines. Plus, as TV Guide points out, corralling the cast & crew from their various other projects would be quite the undertaking (what is Skeet Ulrich doing right now?)

While Arrested Development is a done deal and on it’s way this year, there have been plenty of other unconfirmed rumors about Netflix acquiring defunct TV shows. Last year, we heard about the possibility of Comedy Central’s Reno 911 coming to Netflix for new episodes. In March, we heard that Netflix may snatch up ABC’s doomed drama The River (considering it gets cancelled, which is expected).

Could Netflix carve out a little niche for themselves – bringing dead TV shows back to life?

They are already pushing into the original content arena. In February, the Scandinavian-set Stevie Van Zandt vehicle Lilyhammer debuted. Later this year we should see the much-anticipated Kevin Spacey-David Fincher project House of Cards. Even Eli Roth is getting in on the fun, with a new series called Hemlock Grove set to debut early next year.

Would you be excited for a new season of Jericho? Let us know in the comments.

Yes. And if I wasn’t clear enough about it…YES!!! I stopped watching CBS in 2000 when they canceled Now and Again, and only tuned in again when Jericho came on. I haven’t turned CBS on since 2008. The executives wouldn’t know a good series if it bit them in the butt. Jericho was one of the best.

JERICHO was great i too gave up on cbs when it was pulled, if anyone is going to bring a show back thats definately the one to bring.

    • Ken

      YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • bunny69

Can’t agree with you more! CBS is not one for keeping great quality shows if the shows don’t agree with their current demographics. I loved Jericho & thought it was original & therefore a keeper. Man, was I wrong! Hopefully, Netflix will be able to re-assemble the cast & bring back Jericho for its undying fanbase..

  • Dave

Like Kristy, I stopped watching CBS after they had the nerve to cancel Jericho.

Honestly, if Netflix brings Jericho back, I will reactivate my account and would gladly pay a premium for more Jericho.

  • Patti

YES,Please!! For the love of God please bring back this awesome show. This is a gem in the world of crap tv.

  • Dave McBroom

Yes, I would like to see 10 more Jerichos. I think Netflix can fill a huge niche by re-building some canceled shows. Tops on my wish list would be Firefly…….Are you listening Netflix?

    • wimpy

i would gladly pay them tuesday for jericho, firefly, 24,today

    • Rex

Oh yeah, Jericho, Sarah Conner, and Firefly. I think Netflix would do alot to fix there MUCH damaged reputaton with bringing the fans what the networks refused to do.

  • chris

Hell yes!!!! Was one of the best shows ever… I’d also renew my netflix for it… maybe they could bring back “Alcatraz” & “Missing” as well…. my batting average was horrible this year… I had refused to watch any new shows after “Jericho” got axed… new rule was must be on 3 yrs and a surefire hit… shoulda stuck to it!!

  • TRISH

Loved Jericho! Like others have stated…I would reinstate my netflix account for that show!!!!

  • Kevin

As a non netflix subscriber, if they started to pick up popular shows that got cancelled like Jericho, The river and some of the recent cuts like prime suspect and the finder I would ABSOLUTELY subscribe to their service. Offering an alternative to regular cable offerings is to me what would give netflix real value!

  • pat

yes, yes, yes…on jericho coming back. how about resurrecting apparently recently cancelled alcatraz.

    • Pat

I agree that they should’ve brought it to satisfactory ending, don’t leave us hanging.

  • Carolyn

Say yes to Netflix bringing back Jericho and many other great shows and get rid of the crap that the cable industry calls intertaining. I have often thought that any show that might challenge what so many would like to hide has been cancelled. What about 24?????? Bring back television shows that gives meaning and fight back to our country instead of crap TV which keeps us numb and not thinking.

  • lil

wish someone would bring back Carnivale =[

    • Tori

I know right?! That was a great show too!!
I’d love to see Netflix save shows we’ve lost over the years…Jericho, Veronica Mars…not to mention Firefly!!

  • Sharon

YES!!!!!!!! bring it back…….. we loved it………

  • mark

Not only hell yes but hell hell yes!!!!! It is about time! My god with the cult following you would think this wouls have happened sooner!

  • Rusty

I would love to see Jericho completed properly and would subscribe to any service that did some of these shows some justice. In any given year for the past decade, all three major networks have screwed us with cancelled shows left and right. Their preferred method. hype a new show, especially something in the sci-fi arena, run it for about six weeks, take it off a month before Christmas; either bring it back in late January or February with little hype or notice, possibly change the night and then cancel it because they lost the audience. That is if it even comes back at all. NBC just anounced some sci-fi show for the new season about a loss of all modern technology; just wait, get interested in it and it will be cancelled like Flash Forward and some other show from 2010-2011 about aliens trying to take over the earth.

  • bstewart

i loved jericho and would love to see it return to tv. it was a great show.

YES; JERICHO !!! Please bring it back!!! This was a great show!!! It shows how people can work through a bad situations, relationships, stratogies. Jericho is full of drama and suspense. It keeps you on the edge of your seat! It was one of the few shows in a long time that was really interesting.

  • Mike

It would be great to see Jericho again. I think we should all tell netflix that we agree with the return of Jericho and tell them some other shows we would like to see.

  • Dayna

That would be awesome to see new episodes of Jericho. They left it with no ending. Here, here to more cancelled shows on Netflix. Would be a great business move.

  • Warren

Oh YES!! A No Brainer! Jericho was a great show!

I’m with Dave McBroom and Rusty. Bring back Jericho, Firefly, and Flash Forward, and I will reactivate my account.

  • George

Yes…..Jericho!…and if Netflix is feeling froggy then please bring back The Event…Please give sci-fi shows a chance to set up the story before pulling the plug on them.(i.e. Terra Nova & Alcatraz..yes…I know that the story line for The Event was established..and it was awesome,Terra needed time and Alcatraz was getting there….slowly)

  • Mark61

Yes. Without a doubt. I only make time for one TV show a season. Jericho was it. I’d watch for sure.

  • Tre619

Pleassssssssse bring back JERICHO! This is one of my all-time favorite shows. I was so pissed that it didn’t get a proper series finale.

  • Tracy

Yes, absolutely want Jericho back. Loved it. How about some Firefly, I believe Nathon Fillion would be up for it. I also really enjoyed invasion.

  • Capt_ObVus

I am with a lot of people here as well, I want more Jericho also, and will start my Netflix back up if they bring it to light.

  • Mr. & Mrs Cohen

    Yes…. X 2.

    Loved this show….

Im sick of great shows being canceled and crappy show even getting on the air… GCB???? WTF!

Jerico, Firefly, BSG, Dead Like me, Nip Tuck….AND BRING BACk STAR TREK!

    TY

  • tom

yes, definetly bring jerico back. it was 1 show i watched on a regular basis.

  • pauls92mom

I’d love it if you brought back Jericho. I couldn’t understand why it was canceled. Great show!

  • Blindman69

I’m a big fan of many great shows cut too soon, Jericho being one of them. If Netflix needs a niche list then ditto to all above: Firefly, Alcatraz, Invasion,Flash Forward, The Finder, Missing. These are just shows I watch, I’m sure there are others ther could rescue that never appealed to me. I hope that make a go of it.

    • Tracey

I am also so upset that NBC is cancelling Harry’s Law. I surely hope that someone will pick that up also. All of these shows that people have mentioned are shows that I watched on a regular basis and then “poof” they are gone for some crappy reality show. AMC had a GREAT show in “Rubicon” but that was cancelled also. I guess “mindless” TV is what the masses are after. Jericho may have been a show the “hit too close to home” and probably why it was gone before its time. Netflix could really be onto something, what a way to boost their memberships. I am all for anything that brings back these shows. I, for one, am tired of sitcoms and reality tv, which do nothing but dumb everyone down.

  • pat hanson

OMG!!I am so excited to think Jericho may be coming back. I thought it was horrible when it was cancelled. There are a lot of shows on that I honestly don’t know how they ever got on the air and yet a wonderful show like Jericho was cancelled. Kudos to Netflix, and I would like them to consider bringing Missing back which (in my opinion) should never have been considered to be cancelled.

  • Terrie

Yes! Bring it back. It was the best show ever.

  • NAN

Oh Wow Jericho was the Best show..would Love to see it again!

  • shane

This is exciting news! This is number 2 in my all time please bring back list. Crossing my fingers for Firefly……come on……

  • Jack

Yes, yes, yes, yes. I really loved the series and was saddened when it was taken off the air. I want more and more.

  • Dee

I would absolutely love it if there were new episodes of Jericho. I really enjoyed the show. I truly wish when the networks were going to cancel a program they would do a final episode to wrap up the loose ends instead of just leaving the viewers hanging. It would be much easier to let go when they are cancelled.

  • HiTeck Redneck

    Nuts to Jericho!!!!!

If they bring back Jericho I DEFINITELY will be subscribing to NetFlix — heck it’s a LOT cheaper than the $100 worth of Peanuts I sent to CBS when they canceled it!

If Netflix has half a clue, now would also be the PERFECT time to approach Fox about an option to pickup Firefly. Basically, right now Joss is riding high (courtesy of the Avengers) and the rest of the world has finally figured out what millions of Buffy, Angel, Firefly, & Dollhouse fans have already known. Right now, advertising something “from the mind of Joss Whedon” could be a big drawing force.

If you combine DVD/BluRay sales with Netflix subscriptions, there has to be a break even point where it makes commercial sense to bring series back to life — and a lot of fans, especially sci-fi fans in general, tend to be a bit of a rabid bunch (myself included). Even at say, $50 a BluRay set or more, I would suspect you could get a TON of pre-orders for a series. Heck, the studio should just list it for pre-order at Amazon with the contingency that it will only ship when the number of preorders makes it financially viable — for some series (e.g. Jericho and/or Firefly) where people (like me) have already shelled out HUNDREDS of dollars to buy full DVD box sets, then full HD-DVD box sets, then full BluRay box sets, etc. I don’t think it would take all that long to reach a point where the studio was basically GUARANTEED (along with advertising revenue) to at least break even on the production.

  • John

I Would love to see more episodes of Jericho! I’ve watched this series several times and It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I reached the end and see how it just drops off. I want to see what happens. I really hope they bring it back and I know a lot of people that feel the same. I love how Netflix is bringing back series that didn’t take off on TV because of bad timing or the fact that watching Network TV is just a pain in the neck with all the comercial breaks.

  • http://kristykjames.wordpress.com Kristy

I’ve never had a Netflix account…but would gladly get one in order to see Jericho. If they could do this successfully, maybe producers could have written into series contracts that if networks cancel them, Netflix can have an immediate shot at taking it over. I’m am very tired of the Nielsen rating system deciding what I’m allowed to watch.
