  1. Myspace was bearly used cause Facebook tookover really fast, also, MySpace idea was used by many before, while facebook is kinda new.

There went google’s only chance to win at social networking. Pocket change and Google didn’t buy it? Google could’ve revived Myspace easily. They lost their only chance they got. Google + will fail miserably.

    • Yep, cause I tried Orkut once and never liked it, so I trashed my account there!

Chris, this is horrible reporting. Your assumptions are asinine, to say something like “it looks like the new Myspace will be a music site with lots of video ads.” is irresponsible, you have no idea as indicated by your article what will happen with Myspace. And yes News Corp did buy the company for $580 and sell it for $35. but it was not like in the meanwhile they made $0. You may have forgot the 3 year $900 million dollar contract with Google shortly after paying that $580 million. Also at the time was taking in a healthy revenue. They may have been loosing money very recently but the site still garners tons of traffic (30 million unique visitors a month, 3 times more than the WSJ) and has more ad revenue than twitter.

The fact is that unless someone can make something out of it for what it is then the cash you would have to put into it to make it something else would be too much to undertake. It would be a horrible Idea for Google, even though the last commenter said Google could make it work “easily.” It takes more than $ to make businesses work, and unless you can make Myspace work there is no way it would make business sense to convert it to something else called Myspace.

    • LOL, let’s examine the statements that would lead one to such a conclusion. First from Timberlake:

“There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. Myspace has the potential to be that place”

There’s the music video section covered. Now for Specific Media. First they are, GASP, a video advertising company with a stated goal of harvesting ad data from the remaining accounts. Oh, look. This comes directly from their press contact:

“Specific Media will also leverage the Myspace social networking infrastructure to deploy socially-activated advertising campaigns

So yeah, a music site with video ads.

Now, you can infer whatever you’d like from this partnership, but the fact is, there’s enough information — actually, we’ll call it “overwhelming evidence” — out there to draw such a conclusion.

      Thanks for reading.

I have a better assumption, lets say since they said “A Myspace deal would give the company access to data about Myspace users” then they are for sure going to sell our info to China.

And while we are at it lets say for sure that since Justin said “I’m excited to help revitalize Myspace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community” that he will for sure turn this into a message board.

When News Corp bought it did they turn it into a news site? Did they even try to integrate any one of their news channels? Hmmm.

Another thing, both of these things Myspace already does, I mean does Myspace leverage the Myspace social networking infrastructure to deploy socially-activated advertising campaigns?

Also Timberlake says “share and discover cool stuff and just connect” Sure he mentions music and videos but doesn’t Myspace already do this?

I guess I am missing the absolute certainty that you are getting at in your statements. The fact is no one knows, it is all speculation. However I do love your brilliant statement, “Not sure how that’ll succeed, mind you.” This article really digs deep.

  4. I’m tempted to delete my account there at this news!

  5. The next big thing is always just around the corner waiting to become popular… who knows, this could be it.
