Software giant still looking like a winner for the long haul

Microsoft Reports Record Third-Quarter Revenue

Microsoft has announced their quarterly revenue for the period ending March 31st. They generated $17.4 Billion, which is a 6% increase year over year and raised operating income 12% to $6.37 billion.

Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft commented on the results of the quarter:

“We’re driving toward exciting launches across the entire company, while delivering strong financial results,”

“With the upcoming release of new Windows 8 PCs and tablets, the next version of Office, and a wide array of products and services for the enterprise and consumers, we will be delivering exceptional value to all our customers in the year ahead.”

Net income and diluted earnings per share dropped some compared to last year and came in at $5.11 billion and $0.60 per share.

Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft also comments on their performance thgis quarter:

“We saw strong demand for our business desktop and infrastructure offerings,”

“Solid revenue growth and continued cost discipline drove double-digit operating income growth.”

The Microsoft Business Division grew 9% since last year and generated $5.81 billion in revenue. Window Live Division grew over 4% since last year and generated $4.62 billion in revenue, but the the Entertainment & Devices Division lost 16% and fell to $1.62 billion in revenue this quarter. Overall a good showing for the firm.

Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft commented on their overall success this quarter:

“We continue to execute well across our businesses, and we are seeing robust demand for our enterprise products and services,”

“Our investments and offerings in the database platform and public, private, and hybrid cloud are helping our customers transform their operations to meet today’s evolving business demands.”
