  • Today must be smartphone announcement day. In addition to Motorola’a announcement of its new RAZR i, LG today announced its new flagship smartphone device, the Optimus G.

LG’s Optimus G will have a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and either a 13MP or 8MP rear camera. The screen is a 4.7-inch, 1280 x 768 WXGA display and the phone will come with 32GB of storage space.

“The Optimus G is a groundbreaking premium device not only in the history of LG but also in the smartphone industry,” said Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics. “With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed UX features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives.”

In its announcement, LG emphasized what it is calling the “cross-tasking” abilities of the Optimus G. It defines this ability as being able to complete multiple tasks simultaneously “without having to compromise other tasks.” As an example, LG promoted its QSlide feature, which allows the smartphone to display two screens simultaneously. LG states that users could use QSlide to send a text message or search the web while watching a video.

The Optimus G will go on sale in Korea next week and in “key” global markets during October.

LG has also released a video highlighting the design of the phone. In it Sera Park, the design team leader for the Optimus G, talks about the decisions that went into how the smartphone looks:
