  1. Chris,

I agree with you about not doing fake social media marketing such as fake video product reviews or fake product testimonials, or buying fake fans and friends. And this is why I like Amazon’s verified buyer feature and where you can check the past reviews made by the reviewer. It won’t be as believable to read a review from a person with only one review compared to a person who have several reviews of different products—- and not all of them can be all 5-star ratings.

Re: Participating in forums and blogs, I have additional thoughts to share to your readers.

Once you’ve decided to blog on a niche or sell a particular product or service online, you need to start introducing yourself, starting and joining conversations in your communities on the web, and providing value to this community.

This ‘community’ is your network, ‘your people’ and your success in generating opportunities is dependent on how your product is really helpful to them and how they ‘trust’ you based on the value (expertise, referrals, help and etc.) you provide to them.

Ask yourself, what type of person will you refer to your friends? Or what products will you willingly promote, tweet, or post a link for free? Then be this person and sell this type of product.

Hence, a successful online blog or online sales business is for people who have made the decision to do this for the ‘long term’ and have chosen a niche they can market, talk about, and be involved in its development (like darren with blogging or seth with marketing, or chris with social marketing) over time—so they themselves become a brand in their niche.

    Best regards,
