Katie Couric Launches Tumblr To Interact With Yahoo Audience

By: Chris Crum - March 10, 2014

Katie Couric has a new Tumblr blog as the Yahoo’s Global Anchor, and will interview Michael Bloomberg on Friday.

Couric was announced for the role at Yahoo back in November, when CEO Marissa Mayer referred to as “the face of Yahoo News”.

She made her debut in January with a Robert Gates interview just ahead of the publication of his memoir Duty.

Couric is using Tumblr to reach out to her audience, and get feedback. She writes:

Welcome to my new Tumblr! I’m really looking forward to connecting with you here, and seeing all the questions, photos and video you want to share. As I begin my new role as Global Anchor for Yahoo, I want to hear from you. What stories matter most to you, and which people do you find most interesting? I’ve been really fortunate to have the opportunity to talk to some fascinating people in my career, from presidents and heads of state to celebrities and newsmakers of the moment.

I want you to come along with me this time, to give you a window into their lives and have your voice be heard.
And first up is former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. From gun control to smoking to obesity, he’s never been shy about tackling tough or controversial issues. Now in his new role at the United Nations he’s taking on climate change…in cities all around the world.

She’ll post the interview on Tumblr and on Yahoo on March 14th.

You could leave a snide comment regarding this, and her extensive national profile. But she’ll find it’s a hard fought fight online. So sure best of luck, for attempting to raise the profile. Yahoo’s not the best known platform for intellectual reprise.
