Jurassic Park 4 Rumors Poised To Set The Internet Ablaze
[ Social Media]

If there is one thing you can unite the internet community around, it’s bacon. Bacon and, to a lesser degree, Jurassic Park 4 rumors.

That’s why the news just put out by the Hollywood Reporter is going to ignite the speculation fuse, once again, about the possibilities of a reboot of the much beloved film.

According to THR, Steven Spielberg has been holding meetings with screenwriter Mark Protosevich and “kicking around ideas for how to reboot the Jurassic Park franchise.” So yeah, that’s happening (wheeeeee). Spielberg’s camp as well as Universal Picutres stressed that they aren’t banging out a script, as these are only super preliminary talks.

Protosevich has written the 2006 action remake Poseidon, the adaptation of the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend as well as the criminally underrated visual masterpiece The Cell. So that sounds promising-ish.

Jurassic Park is a great film. Two and three, meh. But for anyone my age (or, like me, dinosaur obsessed at a young age) the original holds tons of sentimental value. For me, it was one of the first movies I ever truly loved. Many people feel the same way I do about it, thus the huge internet buzz whenever “4″ is mentioned.

The last big JP4 buzz happened back in 2007 when Laura Dern said that it was definitely happening. She told MTV -

“It is happening. Rumor has it [my character] Ellie Sattler may be back in the woods, back on the island,” Dern announced, saying the movie will hit theaters in 2008. She added with a coy smile, “You know, there is a guy I know who told me he wants me to have something to do with it. [So] I have a date with a dinosaur again. My 5-year-old will be thrilled.”

Then the reports emerged that the dinosaurs in the film were to be outfitted with government-grade weapons for battle purposes. And the internet collectively shit a brick. But that version of the film never made it to theaters and fans were left wondering if they would ever see Dr. Grant or Ian Malcolm on screen again.

But now it looks like things are moving in the right direction at least. Or wrong direction according to this writer at The Guardian

First, let’s get the obvious out of the way. Jurassic Park IV will be terrible. All the signs are there. Michael Crichton is dead. Stan Winston is dead. The last time Steven Spielberg waited this long to revive one of his franchises, he ended up blowing Harrison Ford across the sky in a fridge. The portents are not good. In an ideal world Jurassic Park would be extinct, once and for all.

He suggests that we crowdsource the plot of the upcoming film to save it from whatever awfulness is bound to ensue. Interesting idea – let’s keep that in mind.

Twitter, as usual, is weighing in on the news –

Spielberg is considering making Jurassic Park 4, due to advances in CGI technology which will assure that the dinosaurs no longer look real. 53 minutes ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Steven Spielberg is considering making a Jurassic Park 4. Rumor has it, Chris Bosh has already been asked to play the Brachiosaurus. 1 hour ago via Echofon · powered by @socialditto

Oh, and I discovered this. Did you know that Jurassic Park 4 has a rotten tomatoes page? It’s 93% fresh based on 444 user ratings. It says the film is from 2008 and stars Sam Neill and Keira Knightley. Holy hell, did I miss something?

Is the nostalgia in me clouding my judgment? Maybe so. Maybe I just want some of the old magic recaptured so bad that I’m getting excited about something that is doomed to disappoint. But let’s just hope it gets made and hope that it turns out to be awesome. I don’t think there is any chance in JP4 ruining the first one for me after sitting through JP2 and JP3. All I have to say is it better have Goldblum in it.

REGARDLESS the story, If the Original Cast, The Kid from the Second and Alejandro Nivola from the Third are not in it… Forget it!

Start with the Great Cast and go on from there.

    BRING IT ON SPEILBERG!

  • RDK

Keep the comics away from this movie! It seems that every sequel, from Jaws, Superman, Batman, Terminator, and even Jurrasic Park, to whatever, has turned from serious to the most ridculous. Even in Jurrasic Park 2, when T Rex was loose in San Diego, it was chasing some Japanese down the street. How corny can you get as it turned into a brief Godzilla movie! How quaint! Don’t get me wrong as Spielberg is one of the best storytellers of our age, but everybody who touches his stuff “after the fact” turns it into garbage. I believe what makes a movie really scary, like the original Jaws, was that he took ALL the elements of fright, and poured it into that movie. It still holds the test of time to being the most frightening movie of its kind, as more people are bitten by sharks today than every before. Again, just don’t make fun of it, or let a comic try to add humor to the script! Just doesn’t work and never has!

they should pursue the rumor i heard…terrorists threaten a US city with what they have harnessed…remember the plot line in JP I?????

Good God..im gonna be ripped off for this one but they could do hybrid dinos that were spliced from the DNA stolen form that island…..to cater to what this dark force wants…to rule the world…or at least try to….

    Dinos as a weapon…….

OMFG!!JURASSIC PARK 4 BEST NEW EVER CANT WAIT TO WATCH IT♥♥♥♥!!!

  • T. Johnson

I believe JP4 would be good if they follow the first’s formula. JP2 &3 was just and afterthought. Here’s to hoping Mr. Spielberg will bring back the good fun of the first.

    • JohnMB

Bring it back. Name it Jurassic Park 4-Turok. Flush the entire old cast. And film it on the premise of the Dino video game, Turok. and it will be a huge hit. Make Duane ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Turok. And Arnold, Terminator, the crazed, mad Colonel. They could create an inspired script off that simple game.

  • jake46

please no dont shit all over jurasic park like you did indiana jones

    • tutrue

I agree the ending to indiana jones was terrible

  • john hewett

i think they should use the old people and should tie in where the computer geek lost the shaving cream can full of embryos to the story.

  • Jennifer

woo hoo finally a jurrasic Park 4,wonder what kind of dinosaurs will be in this one this time?

    • Jordyn

I’m hoping for some aquatic dinosaurs like megalodon…

  • Glenn

Jurassic park 4 ? I think there`s one glaring question here….WHY ??? There hasn`t been a good Jurassic park sequel yet so why should we believe this one would be any better ? The original Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite movies but the sequels have been (for me) major disappointments. It`s been said that it`s a fool who keeps trying the same thing and expects a different result, I say “NO JURASSIC PARK FOUR” !!!!!!!

    • tutrue

haha so funny, it’s all about entertainment. I think it would be great. What would you rather watch snookie does italy, or kardashian does china?

      • Art

Perfectly said. Anyone who likes dinos will welcome a 4th, 5th, whatever. I love seeing dinos look real on the big screen! Call me crazy, but I liked all three movies, but the first was the best.
Snookie and The Kardashians!??!?!?! Really? LOL

  • TomSiebert

“The Cell” is sooooo far away from a masterpiece. It’s repulsive and repellent.

    • http://www.ientry.com/ Josh Wolford

It’s beautiful to look at and compelling.

    • Sam

It was a beautiful movie if you look at it from an artistic standpoint. Visually stunning even. The plot could have used a little work but everything else seemed fine. I watched it mainly due to Jenny but all in all I give it a solid “B”.

      • http://www.ientry.com/ Josh Wolford

JLo gets a bad rap for her performance, IMO. Tarsem gets a bad rap as well. He was able to make a psychological crime drama visually stunning. Plus, he was able to make Vince Vaughn believable. That’s an A in my book. :-)

  • JS

The Lost World Jurassic Park was based on a Crichton novel as well, but wasn’t very faithful to the book. The first Jurassic Park film did not follow the book very well either but it was still a classic. Personally, I liked The Lost World even though they had to tone it down for a younger audience (the book was far more violent and “R” rated). The series should have ended at The Lost World.

  • mike

Great. I watched all the Jurassic Park movies in theaters when I was a kid. I just hope they don’t screw this one up. Hint: More dinosaurs would be nice with Avatar-like graphics, but it must have a good story unlike many of the pointless sequels today.

  • Thomas Potter

That would be awsome to have a part 4, I loved them all

  • Amy

Well…as long as George Lucas isn’t involved, maybe it won’t be as bad as blowing Harrison Ford across the sky in a fridge.

  • jabster

I am all for Jurrasic Park 4, if they leave that boring actor, Jeff Goldblum out of it.

    • http://www.ientry.com/ Josh Wolford

      Say what?

    • Person

      Heresy!

  • Person

I think the JP4 on Rotten Tomatoes was made based on rumour, or it was made by a troll.
It’s not real, that’s for sure.

  • Beverly Henson

I’ve said for years that if they actually wrote a story for JP based on the NOVELS – they still have at least two good movies – since the movies don’t even really resemble the books at ALL.

  • Barbara Daniels

JP1 & JP2 had class, style, and Jeff Goldbloom. Bring all 3 back and you might have a winner.

  • te ferrill

OMG HOLLY MOELY………ITS ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!! My daughter absoultly loved the first one she was about almost 3 at the time and watch it every nite with out nightmares..I would give her the choice each night and each night it was Jurassic Park. OH PLZ make another..but could u look at the sea creatures a little more and bring back the original kids, that would be great.

  • Eric

Well even if it is just a rumor, after seeing the internet in such a buzz, steven would be crazy to not at least consider the idea.

  • http://raven.neredbojias.net Anna Duval

I think another Jurassic Park 4 would be great if Spielberg has Rick Baker make the dinosaurs and all 3 actors return. Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern, plus the kids from Jurassic Park. But they need to make it a good and last one, to finish the series. Msybe have others there who get attacked and eaten by some of the biggest dinosaurs and the main actors once again running for their lives. I have all three movies and would love to have a fourth and final one.

Steven Spielberg AND Jurassic Park 4 very IMPRESIONANTE

  • harefromPA

I love Jurassic Park. With all the hype and merchandise that was out for that film, I said why waste my time. But I love dinosaurs and it was awesome. For me, 2 was just as good, we all knew they would come to America.. But then there was 3. Nice story, but was to short for a JP movie. Did it even hit the 90 minute mark. They need to do a 4 for what they didn’t do in 3. They need to make it bigger and better and I like the poster’s comment on the storyline with the embryos. Now that would be exciting!

  • roy lucas

The Rotten Tomatoes page for the 2008 JP4 that never materialized simply says that 444 people clicked that they want to see it. 0 reviews. Great sensationalism. Terrible journalism. You are a tool.

    • Kyle

The rotten tomatoes page clearly says +93% want to see it….user reviews:444….roy lucas, you are a “tool”

    • http://www.ientry.com/ Josh Wolford

Yeah, way to completely fail at getting any sort of sarcasm.

  • Greg

The first JP movie was verry good and i liked the second and third alot to. Iv been hopeing for a fourth since the third one came out. If i was makeing this movie i would use some of the cast from the first movielike Dr. grant mabe dont put them on the island but have at least one of them in the movie. No matter how they do it id go to the movies to see JP4.

  • Susan

    This article…meh. Very poorly written.

    • http://www.ientry.com/ Josh Wolford

Exactly what irks you, Susan? Jurassic Park 2 fan?

  • Robo

I think if they do make jp4 it should be in 3D

    • Jordyn

      They should do it 4D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Missy

I would love to have the opportunity to see anything that involves Steven S. directing. Let’s see what happens before we doom it to failure. I believe he has the talent and vision necessary to make JP4 bigger and better than anything seen up to this point. Hopefully he will make the nay sayers eat their words.

  • Matt

I think a great idea for a 4th Jurassic park would be not going back to either island, but for some mad scientist creating a time machine and causing havok!!! It would be right up speilbergs ally!!

  • http://Yahoo Darrell

Great news……Hope they can get it done……My outline would be,that it’s been 20years since anyone has been on the first Island and the Costaricon govt,Wants In-gen to remove then, but In-gen is no longer around due to our recession, therefor our Govt must take on the job by sending in special forces to rid the Island of the Dinos.
However the sintific comunity gets wind of this and after hard fought negotions, the govt allows the three Dr’s to go.

  • Dr. Botchagalupe

OK – here is the story: All of the characters (who are still alive) from all of the movies go back to the second site island for a reunion. The ghost of Samuel L. Jackson’s character from JP 1 appears to all and warns them that all of the raptors are coming to this side of the island because they are downwind. Right before Samuel L Jackson disappears he yells “I am sick of these mutha f@#kin’ dinosaurs on this mutha f#$kin’ island!” So they all get together and devise a plan to kill all the dinosaurs. Ellie calls her soon-to-be ex-husband (from JP3) for help. OF course, she is in a heated divorce with and trying to get custody because her ex was sexually abusing her son. She asks her ex, for the boy’s sake, to send the marines to save them, then nuke the island. He calls president Obama and asks him to nuke the island, neglecting to remember to ask for Ellie and friends to be saved (oops). Obama, not wanting to use nukes, says no until the guy tells Obama that the entire staff of Fox News is on the island to do a special. Obama then nukes the island and blames Bush. Everyone dies, BUT, of course, as the mushroom cloud disappears, we see a T Rex poke his head out of the ocean and snicker. He turns away and starts to swim east, heading for Tokyo where he plans to join Godzilla on a “Visit Tokyo and destroy” vacation. The Japanese take over the franchise and the T Rex becomes a guy in a rubber suit.

    • LovesJurrasicPark!

Omgosh! That is sooo funny!! I liked that…You perfectly said everything that is sooo true. I think it was genius..Not so much for the actually movie, but just to get people to see it and think about the truth in it all…lol..Good Job:)

    • sevenof9fl

      ROFL, too too funny!

    • Some Guy

This is so funny. If you’re a filmmaker, make this.

  • Johnathan Thomas

Jurassic Park 4… yes please do, and while at the attempt to improve a childhood favorite of mine, please make it another movie with lots of military in it. Dino-world vs. modern military, oh yeah! NOT REALLY THOUGH!!! GET CREATIVE FOR YOUR OWN CAREER’S SAKE! GOOD JOB ON THE IDEAS BEFORE BUT DON’T START BACK PEDDELING NOW!

  • derek desmet

Stupid. Dumb. Bad Bad Bad idea. Story is stupid who in there right mind after ever getting of the island a second time in 2 and 3 would go back again to temt fate. which means new characters. Speilberg sucks hasnt made a worth while movie in years. the last indy movie with lucas shows how out of touch with quality the man is. Hang it up. Dinosaurs are boring as hell. There are no new visuals other then putting that festering pile of crap in 3d big f’n whoop. waste of time money and movies shouldnt end with a four trilogies should remain 3 movies. i guess the last die hard was ok but rambo and terminator sucked donkey balls.Dont do it dont make a 4. He must be washed up. If he had any credibility left he would create something new and ground breaking. i already give 2 thumbs down to JP4.

    • LovesJurrasicPark!

WHAT? You think you could do any better on “Better movie Idea’s”? You don’t appreciate “GOOD MOVIE TASTE” Is what your problem is. Shame on you for saying 1..Dinasaurs are boring and suck, 2.Speilburg is all washed up, 3. That he hasn’t made any good movie’s worth watching in years,4.That Rambo and Terminator Sucked Donkey B@11s! You, You are just a sad, lonely, bitter person who has to dis happiness that people look forward to. JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DOESN’T MEAN MANY, MANY OTHERS DON’T!! You need to go get you a Phsycologist and talk to them about your poor judgement and bitterness towards EVERYTHING and EVERYONE!!

      • derek desmet

ha ha. you got to be kidding me. you telling me that last indiana jones movie was good u obviously have horrible taste in movies. the simple reason for them to not make another movie is because the story will be pulled from there asses. also been to long since third one. the actors if they have any self respect for themselves would not want to be part of the horribleness the movie would bring

  • http://Facebook Mickey

I was there on opening night in LA. I paid $500.00 dollars for my ticket,It was worth every dime. The sound system was unbeleavable and when Rex took off after the tore toyota it felt like he was leaving the screen and coming after me.I was so moved by that film that I saw it 12 times after that and every time it’s been on HBO and Showtime.has to be one of the best films I ever seen then years later came iron man? Now I am lost again. OH well thats showbiz!

  • Joshua

If anyone can do this… Spielberg can!!! Best movies ever made have his name on them. In my humble opinion anyway.

    • Karizma

I totally agree 100% with you! That’s what I said. He’s Good Enough to make it a “HIT”! And he’s the “ONLY ONE” who could:)

  • brandon

wre all going to die runnnn dino on our way

  • Karizma

JURRASIC PARK 4? My dreams may just be coming true:) I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE Speilburg DOES decide to do it!! He’s Brilliant enough to make it an “AWESOME MOVIE” I have absolutely NO DOUBTS about it! I LOVED 1 and 2, 3..ahh, it was ok..could have been better. I didn’t like that Ellie should have ended up with Doctor Grant and not some twit we never even knew of…1 made it almost perfectly clear they were going in that direction. But, whatever…I’m happy just to think the whole “Dinasaur being recreated, and roaming around in our new age” Is good enough for me;) My children will hopefully be able to feel that same greatness I felt when I was around their age and saw 1. I think they all should be recast for it..Ellie, Goldblum and Grant:)

  • tieran usaur

if there ever was 2 b a reboot, they should honour MICHAEL CRICHTON by making it as close as possible to the novels and make it an epic adventure- take a page 4rm Peter Jackson’s adaptations of the Lord of the Rings trilogy!- And perhaps improve on the characterizations besides the Computer Graphics technology which will b impressive anyway considering the advances in that field made: (Avatar is an example). to summarize: Stan Winston may b extinct but there r others out there with the C.G n Animatronic expertise needed that made the original JURASSIC PARK an awe -spiring film; and base it as close as possible on Michael Crichton’s 2 novels, concentrating more on the characterisations of those iconic characters e.g Dr Alan Grant n the rock star mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm to mention a few… And with Spielberg at the helm going back to his roots,(Jaws, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters, E.T, Schindler’s List etc)he can, (due to his age) end his Directorial career, “65 million years in the making” with a bang

    • Ketan

I am a bit on the fence about this one because of the nature of sequels. Speilberg is an amazing director, but it will depend which Speilberg shows up in the director’s chair. When he goes back to his roots and becomes the child at heart (i.e. Jaws, ET, Jurrasic Park) he is unbeatable, but when he gets into auto pilot (Indiana Jones and the Crystal skull anyone?), you wonder how the hell he could stick his name to such trash. He is brilliant in his own right for being able to pull off not only dramatic cinema, but also the mind-blowing blockbusters that have heart. I hope the kid in him shows up to send this franchise off with a bang, and not the auto pilot drone who feels his name being attached to the poster is enough to cover the costs. You owe it to the fans of this franchise to end it with a great exclamation point, Mr. Speilberg.

Sorry, but THE LOST WORLD and JURASSIC PARK III were great films as well. That said, as much as I enjoy them I’m not really sure where they can go with a fourth film without it being so radically different that they might as well call it something else.

    • derek desmet

says who 2 and 3 were nothing but tshirt attempts well and maybe an underwear plug. they were crap compaired to 1.

  • Michael M

And the last time Spielberg waited this long to revive one of his franchises, he gave us a film that was a terrific old fashioned throwback to the kind of fun high-spirited films that nobody seems to really make anymore.

I agree. No Goldblum, No dice.

  • Jarra

Steven: “Guys I finally thought of a reason to make JP4! We’ll end with a UFO beaming all of the dino’s into outer space!”

Studio: “It would look amazing in 3D!”

Writer: “If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll write anything you want.”

I **love** the idea of it, BUT, (and it’s a big one) my qualifier is: no Goldblum, no movie.
