Google is holding an even later today in which it is expected to unveil some new search-related product. Yesterday’s highly publicized Google doodle, which had the Google logo turning into a bunch of balls flying around as your mouse got closer to it, is presumed to be a clue to the new product launch.

Google has another logo change today. It simply displays the Google logo in a a gray hue, which turns into the standard Google colors as you type. This is thought to be another clue.

Yesterday, a mysterious Google Labs experiment appeared, called Google Scribe, which gives you suggestions for your next words and phrases as you type, based on several factors. This may also be a clue, because another Google experiment was recently discovered, which has search results appear as you type in your search query.

This may or may not be what Google is unveiling today, but my guess is that it’s probably at least part of it. Barry Schwartz says more people are reporting seeing the feature.

After Google Scribe popped up in Labs with no official announcement, I contacted Google to learn more about it, but the company has not yet responded.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt also made some interesting comments this week about search, saying that search should become more automatic.

I believe from clues you are probably correct. If you are though, I think we can go right to saying this would be the most useless and annoying update Google has ever subjected us to. I would normally say, let’s wait and see how it plays out. However, in this case, I don’t think I need to wait.

Of course the first question that comes to mind is why? Why would anyone need this? Other than we are doing it because we can, why? If I am looking for something why do I need the results to change to the partial input in the fly? Not to mention the bizarre results I get if I am looking for ‘analyst’ or ‘sextuplets’.

Second, even if there is some odd

reason I find for wanting this feature how annoying is it going to be to have the results change while you type? Remember T9 text on your phone? How many people would rather type out the full text rather than have the phone complete it because it was so irritating to watch the text change itself?

Ok so unless I am really wrong here and I know I could be since I am writing sight unseen, if this happens as tests have shown, this should go down as they most annoying update in Google history.

I have little doubt that many would agree with you. It would definitely take some getting used to, but I will reserve judgment.

Wow – is this a bad idea. I am not sure how this is going to actually help people. All I can hope is that this goes the way of the Wave.

So basically now… The top 3 listings will get the views. I think I’m banning Google from my properties. Don’t want anything to do with Google anymore. I’m supporting Bing and Yahoo. I’m supporting www.insidegoogle.com too. I think Google has to go.
