iPad 3 Rumor: Release Date Early 2012 Hints Production Numbers
[ Technology]

Today is a huge day for Apple as the launch of the new iPhone 4S began early this morning. Scores of people camped out or arrived in the wee hours of the morning to get in line to purchase the new device.

But not even a big product launch can stop the behemoth that is the Apple rumor machine. This new rumor isn’t about an iPhone, but about the next generation of the iPad.

According to Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro, the iPad 3 is heading into production.

According to supply chain information, Fidacaro says that Apple is increasing their Q4 iPad builds from 11-13 million to 12-14 million. This increase is apparently to accommodate an early run of iPad 3s.

Here’s what he told All Things D:

Since our last month supply chain checks we are now seeing 600,000 to one million iPad 3 builds showing up on the plan for the fourth quarter of calendar 2011.

This would suggest an early 2012 launch of the next-gen tablet. Apple launched the iPad 2 in March of 2012.

Previous rumors have corroborated this prediction. A JP Morgan analyst said in September that it would be highly unlikely to see a new iPad before 2012. Earlier rumors also set a trial production run for October, with an early 2012 release.

As far as the specs go, the iPad 3 is rumored to sport a 9.7 inch, super high resolution screen (2048 x 1536).

As far as actual Apple devices that we can see, ones that aren’t just speculation, what do you think about the iPhone 4S? Are you planning to make the upgrade?

Are you satisfied enough with your iPad 2 or other tablet or would you be chomping at the bit to get your hands on an iPad 3? Let us know in the comments.

Keep holding if half the rumors about the iPad 3 are true you will be sorry you purchased the 2. I have the 4S with Siri and imagine the 3 will have this cool feature as well as an A6 processor and high resolution screen, those are pretty much givens. Hoping for a better res camera with a Flash and dare I say a Flash player, oh well we should know in 4-5 months, I think late Feb-mid March, the 2 released March 12, 2011.

I made the mistake of purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. What a piece of crap!!! I should have spent the extra money for the IPad! Now, with that being said, I am going to hold out for the iPad 3!!! My bosses kid bought the iPad 2, and I LOVE it! But I’ll deal with the Tab until the 3 is releaseed!!!

    • something

dont buy the new galaxy tab 8 its coming out and there is a whole bunch of technical issues. i only know this because i work in the corporation my boss even thinks it is a waste of time and money he says that if anything else is added to it even he wont know how to work it and might just shut down the whole process of it all.

Got the 4s yesterday. Very impressed (I upgraded from a 3GS). I have an Ipad 1 and am eagerly awaiting the 3. I have come to the conclusion that an upgrade every second release is what works for me. I had thought this would be my last Apple before Android shot ahead – not so sure now Icloud and Siri have a huge potential. A little bit concerned about the IOS lock in now?

I have yet to buy one and am ready, but I don’t want to buy the iPad 2 when the 3 will be released shortly. Very excited though, can’t wait!!

    • Bobby Balogna

Same with me. I want an iPad but why but one now? Will wait with bated breath for iPad3.

You wrote: “Apple launched the iPad 2 in March of 2012.” I think you meant 2011…

  • Bryan

I have an ipad2 and I will not buy another one until adobe flash is a part of the package. This has limited my use of the iPad.

    • Jim

Lack of Flash is a frustrating drawback!

i was thinking about getting an ipad 2 but should i wait for the ipad 3? how much is the 64GB going to cost for the ipad 3 when its built? Is the ipad 3 going to be any different from the ipad 2 and is everyone going to be dissapointed with it? Will adobe flash player come with it or will it cost extra? Is there going to be an ipad 4 soon? Is apple approving all the developments with the ipad 3 or will it just be a disaster and the market will plummit below the average? What colours will the ipad 3 have will there be a variety or just white and black? will the market go up because of the ipad 3? how come the date that the ipad 3 has now changed from oct 2011 to march 2012 was there something wrong with the technical parts of the ipad or was the design just to complex?

  • Jim

Love my iPhone 4S and iOS 5. Loved my original iPad, that said to me the iPad 2 was a giant disappointment, I only got it so I could give my wife the original as she mostly uses it for streaming video and web surfing, the 2 with its useless 1 megapixel camera with no flash was a joke, A5 dual core processor is great but can only go as fast as your broadband connection allows, hope the 3 impresses me enough to buy as I would like to go to a 64 GB machine but not paying $700 plus for the privilege unless they make a worthy product, if not I’ll be waiting for the iPad 4 in 2013!

  • Jim

Only thing Apple is missing is a 6″ tablet, small enough for a jacket pocket but 2X as large as iPhone or ITOUCH , that I would buy in addition to the full sized tablet

I have the iPhone 4 and I’m not upgrading to iPhone 4S … I don’t see anything worthwhile that isn’t available with iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 (other than the 64GB). I’ll wait for iPhone 5. I want an iPad, and hate to wait until March of 2012 for iPad 3, but I believe the features on the iPad 3 may be worth the wait.

Should I get an ipad 2 for Christmas or should I wait for the ipad 3 to be released next year.

  • Linda

I bought the iPad 2, and it was the best thing i ever did for myself!!!! I hardly use my iPhone 4; if i could make calls on the iPad, the iPhone would gather dust at home. The iPad goes EVERYWHERE with me, and i am on it a great deal of the time. Not only is it great for surfing the web, it is wonderful for watching my movies, and the map has gotten me to locations when traveling when i would have otherwise gotten lost. I love taking videos with it, also. The only part of it i do not like is the camera. The picture quality sucks!! I am hoping that issue will be resolved with the next iPad next year. Yes, I will get up at 3 a.m. and be waiting again at the Apple Store at 5 a.m. for the iPad 3. If only we will be allowed to pre-order it this time…….

  • Sammye Stones

I am waiting for the IPad3. Have the IPad but skipped the IPad2. Will the 3 have flash drive capabilities?
Have the IPhone 4 skipping the 4S. I do love my IPad and IPhone4.
