I Stand With Phil Petition Blocked On Twitter
[ Social Media]

On Monday, Twitter did something that sent Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson supporters into an outrage. The social media site blocked users from linking to the “I Stand With Phil” petition, created by the Christian based group Faith Driven Consumer. The petition is requesting that A&E reinstate the patriarch of the popular television show immediately.

When users tried to link to the URL they received a message that read: “Oops! A URL in your Tweet appears to link to a page that has spammy or unsafe content.” This message led to users accusing Twitter of censorship, and has made national news.

Read the full petition below:

Dear A&E Network,
I am writing to you regarding your network’s intolerant, discriminatory, and punitive treatment of Mr. Phil Robertson, star of A&E’s #1 hit show, Duck Dynasty.
Mr. Robertson’s comments in GQ Magazine are simply reflective of a Biblical view of sexuality, marriage, and family – a view that has stood the test of time for thousands of years and continues to be held by the majority of Americans and today’s world as a whole.
Many members of the LGBT community may not agree with this view, but the notion that a free-thinking American should be discriminated against simply for expressing a perspective that is in conflict with another is patently un-American and flies in the face of true tolerance and civility. A&E’s position, which in your own words is “championing” the gay and lesbian community — which I believe you have the freedom to do — excludes the views of Faith Driven Consumers and effectively censors a legitimate viewpoint held by the majority of Americans.
As a Faith Driven Consumer, I am signing this petition to demand that my views be treated with equality and respect in America’s rich rainbow of diversity.
I am asking your network to immediately reinstate Mr. Robertson to Duck Dynasty, and to formally apologize to him, his family, and the millions of viewers who tune in every week, stand by him, and share his worldview. While the LGBT community may be offended by his opposing viewpoint, your rash, discriminatory, and unfair treatment toward Mr. Robertson — a recognized symbol of the faith community — is a slap in the face to Faith Driven Consumers and everyday Americans alike.
There are 46 million Faith Driven Consumers in America today who spend 1.75 trillion dollars annually. Should you refuse to equally respect and welcome our legitimately held views, we will gladly stop watching this and all other A&E programming and turn to any reformulation of Duck Dynasty on another network – while simultaneously supporting brands that stand with the show and the Robertson family.
Signed,
John Q. Public

The goal of the petition was originally to receive 200,000 signatures. However, the petition has already exceeded their goal, despite the setbacks, and has received a total of 239,454 signatures, to date. Faith Driven Consumer and other supports believe that Twitter intentionally blocked users from linking to the petition, however Twitter claimed it was a mistake, issued an apology, and immediately removed the block. “The URL IStandWithPhil.com was mistakenly flagged as spam tonight, by an outside organization that tracks spam sources. We have restored access and apologize for the error,” Twitter said in a statement.

What do you think? Was Twitter trying to censor their users, or was it an accident? Leave your comments below.

This is the price of Diversity and Tolerance. The end of the America I was born into. I recently watched It is a Wonderful Life. I realized that the United States has turned into the world that would have been without George Bailey in it.

    • @Thomas

There is no “price” for diversity and tolerance. What would you rather have? The opposite? Uniformity and oppression — that sir is called slavery and leads to a dystopia. Christ told us —- don’t judge, seek peace, forgive, show mercy, and love your neighbor. Those things fall under tolerance and the reality is that God created all this diversity.

It is a Wonderful life is fiction. It is a movie. Life isn’t like that. It will never be like that. Stop living in a fantasy world and just be peaceful to all people. In a very real way, the lack of compassion from Christians has led to this dilemma. If we spoke less about who is going to hell and more about how we can make the things Christ told us to do actionable in our lives, many many more people would follow Christ. No one wants to follow anyone who is constantly telling them they are going to hell. No one. But people will follow a man like Christ, that often spoke of good things and he was so very tolerant. I didn’t see him throwing many stones.

It might be fiction, but it’s a pleasure to view compared to what was offered during the week on A & E,(Bonnie & Clyde).Your thoughts about Christ are great.Wouldn’t it be A Merry Christmas & Happy New Year if all people followed Christ a little more.Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Well if Rev. Jackson can have an affair under the rainbow I think Phil should have the right to speck his mind.

Jackson is a joke, I agree with phil.

  • James M. Compton

This was a deliberate attempt by Tweeter to censor an opposing view to their view. This was no accident. For too long the media and these other organizations have tried their best to stop Christianity and the Christian belief. I stand with Phil Robertson and the rest of the Christians in this country.

  • doug

i am not a duck dynity watcher but i agree with phil! mr. jackson needs to read his bible, and being a man of God as he falsely is doing should stand firm in Gods word as ephesians states and not give in to earthly sinful ways. we need more men like phil in this usa so as we can be one nation under God again instead of moving closer to sodom & gormora. mr. jackson needs to also remember that thoughs in higher position will be held to a higher account when the great almighty comes back to get his children. jackson you need to straighten up and fly right!!!!!!! phil, hang in there brother, God is on your side and no one nor nothing can defeat him……..please excuse my spelling….

Robertson should read the rest of Corinthians which states “…it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven…”. It also teaches that the rich should sell all their possessions. Also, Corinthians states that men shouldn’t wear their hair long. If he’s going to preach Corinthians, he’d better actually quote all of it, not just cherry pick the verse that is convenient for him.

      • odie stubbs

what is long hair? i wore hair past my shoulders for years and never called it long hair. look at pictures of Jesus and tell me what is long hair. i also remember reading that a woman should never speak in church, but we have women preachers. you understand your bible in your way, and i in mine. peace

      • Thea

Do you watch the show? Do you know how Phil lives his life? He doesn’t live in a Mansion, he doesn’t have big giant extravagant things. His hair isn’t long either, btw, not by normal standards, even to a female. If my hair was the same lengths as his, I would call it short. Common knowledge, shoulder’s and up is short. Also, he quoted the verse that was relevant for the conversation. Are you going to quote an entire book of the bible just so you can tell someone Jesus came to die for their sins? I didn’t think so.

    • john bently

      I agree

  • Wow

I am a Christian and I will always be a Christian. I see the very hypocritical ways of my fellow Christians and the pure brutality of the Bible Belt states. Those states incarcerate so many people and make so much profit off them. In the United States, we do nothing that Christs asks us to do. Forgive? Show mercy? Seek peace? Love our neighbor? Please. We give these things lip service.

However, even though we have our flaws, this does not take away from the fact that Christ is right about it all and that if we just choose to do what Christ asked, this world would be a much better place. We blame God for so much but the reality is that we have all we need to make this world a utopia. We just choose not to. God gave us free will and we are just making all the wrong choices. We create our own suffering and think only about ourselves. Just ask the poor soul who is in the hell of prison for a decades just because he sold something as harmless as pot. We created that suffering. Not God. We created it by our own stupidity. We are so lost that we incarcerate people for victimless crimes. Really think about the insanity of that!!! We even go a step further —- we set people up and then incarcerate!!! The bible even tells us directly not to do that!!!

What is going on is not a war on Phil. It is not even about being gay. Do you really think the powers in charge in this word care about a gay person? Hell no. Many people forget so easily that there is a lot of evidence that suggests that AIDS was man made and AIDS directly targets gays. No, my friends. All of this amounts to a war on Christ and God. The powers in charge on this planet want to remove Christ from the equation. No one does this with any other religious figures. It is always Christ. One really has to wonder why?

The reason is that Christ is exactly who he said he was and all he said is the truth.

Gays don’t let my intolerant Christian brothers discourage you from pursuing Christ. He is exactly who he said he was and he is merciful to all souls. My Christian brothers — be more tolerant and realize you are not perfect and your judgement of others has done much harm. Life is a journey and we must help people during that journey and let them see the truth in their own time.

All of us — we need to realize the evil that is going on in this country right now. First, they spy on us. Next, we can’t be free to express our opinions. Then they take the guns. Then our society falls. It is that simple. It has happened time and time again. History repeats itself.

America, stay close to Christ and pray. We are going to need it. Things do not look good for us.

      You wrote….
“We are so lost that we incarcerate people for victimless crimes. Really think about the insanity of that!!! We even go a step further —- we set people up and then incarcerate!!! The bible even tells us directly not to do that!!!”

what does that mean? please elaborate on where this is found in the Bible….are you saying that incarcerating drug dealers based on cop initiated deals is not good and serves no good purpose.

Are you saying that Law Enforcement let the crimes happen, before they act to stop crime?

or maybe you are talking about law enforcement posing as young children to catch internet sickos that would prey on a child.

what is it you are saying? because if protecting a child against the evils of this world is wrong, or stopping a crime before it happens….I do not want to be right to your way of thinking.

Reading the Bible is good, but we are given the choice to act also accordingly….Even Jesus ran the money changers out of the temple…he did not ask them to leave…Bible states he became angry at what they were doing and RAN them out.

think you are probably more lip service than you realize….

      • @Jack

The bible tells you directly not plot wicked schemes. It is in proverbs. It is one of the six things the Lord hates. Setting people up is a wicked scheme and it causes needless suffering.

I work in a courtroom. I see the cases you just mentioned every day. In fact, we just prosecuted those internet “sickos’ you just mentioned. I assure you that the people doing the setting up were the sick ones. They decoys were from a group called Perverted Justice. Their founder has been brought up sex charges in the US and their members have criminal records. One woman is all over the LA Times because she is connected to the Enron fraud scandal. They are profiting of the cases and really they are the predators. The group made millions from setting people up. It is purely profit based. What you hear about those cases and the reality of those cases are two totally different things.

The funny thing is that those stings aren’t protecting children. They are doing the exact opposite. Law enforcement is wasting time setting up people and not researching real cases involving real children. I also have never seen a child pursue their attacker for a year and invite their attacker five times to meet. That just doesn’t happen in the real world but it happens in internet stings. VICTIMS DO NOT PURSUE THEIR ATTACKERS but in the internet world, they do.

I tell you what Jack. I will set you up. Arrest you. Incarcerate you. Even though you did nothing. I could do it easily. All I have to do is pull you over and drop a dime bag in your car. Who do you think they will believe? Me or you. The cop or the person pulled over? How would you even fight? I have the evidence. It won’t matter what you say — I promise you this.

Please don’t talk about stuff you never see. I see it daily. Things don’t work the straight forward way you think they do. If you have to go out of your way to set a person up, then you are creating harm.

But according to you, we should arrest people for things that do not happen. What is next? Arresting people for thoughts?

      • @Jack

The guy is right. We will set you up Jack. See how you like it. Those internet stings are bogus. Everyone in law enforcement knows it. Most of the people they catch never had a criminal record and all of them are invited to meet. Most get arrested after stepping out of their car. You don’t even know if they would have turned around and gone home once they knew the truth. Heck, all that is really going on is that people are taking advantage of the fact you don’t know the truth about a person you meet on the internet until you meet them. I also agree with another thing said — I have been in law enforcement for a long time — I have never met a victim who pursues their attacker. Not in all my years.

      • @Phil R.

I agree. Lets go set Jack up. Then arrest him. Destroy his life. Yep — that is the Christian thing to do. Christ would be in favor of that. No one set the money changers up Jack. Did Christ set them up? No. You can’t compare Christ flipping the tables with setting another human being up.

Jack you are a prime example of how warped Christians can get. Maybe the only real hope for you is to one day be set up and experience it for yourself.

Oh by the way, there is this whole thing about being a false witness and the Pharisees constantly were trying to set up Christ. In fact, they arrested him after they set him up. They distorted everything —- quite like when law enforcement sets people up. It is all distortion.

But go ahead and be a Pharisee.

      • S. Ridley

I don’t know very many children that invite their attackers to meet. I work in a shelter. I have never seen one case where a child or woman invited their attacker via the internet. What you are doing in those cases is taking away from real cases of abuse by setting people up. I wish the cops would spend more time at my shelter than they do playing games on the computer.

      • S. Ridley

By the way. The bible verse the person spoke of is this:

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
        (Proverbs 6:16-19)

What kind of person wakes up and devises a wicked plan to arrest people? To cause a soul to go to the hell of prison? You do realize that people die in prison every day and their lives are destroyed by going there. Look at the passage above. Setting people up involves all of that.

      • Too Funny

Jack — cops sell drugs to the drug dealers. Who are you kidding? You don’t live in the real world do you. You really believe that there is no corruption in our courts and that setting people up is okay. Where does it end. I agree with the others. You should be set up. Maybe then you would understand.

      • Reply

First we set people up …. then what happens next? Where does it end? Do we lock people up because they have certain personality traits? Because they are of a certain race? Because they have the wrong genes?

I work in a prison. Prison kills people. You can get a disease, get stabbed, get robbed, or get raped. The only people that need to be sent there are those that are truly guilty and for crimes that happen. I am also not as naive as Jack. It is easy to set up innocent people. Cops do it all the time. The key word is innocent. Isn’t that what happened to Christ? I think it was. He died and did nothing to deserve it. Kind of like people who are set up.

Come to prison Jack. I doubt you have ever stepped foot in one. Why don’t you actually see what you are sentencing a person to. Hypocrite.

  • Lois Waller

It is just as easy to BLOCK Twitter as they can block Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson. They are for all intents Blocking Freedom of Speech, all other organizations or their spokesmen can speak out and even ridicule the Bible with no repercussions, but just let a Christian quote the Good Book and it becomes virial. Just another example of the Country moving away from our beginning. “IN GOD WE TRUST”

  • Sue Burns

What’s happened to our first and second amendment rights?!?!?!?!? Whether or not I agree with the Robertson’s beliefs is irrelevant!!! It’s about freedom of speech and freedom of religion!! Hey everyone….here is a list of channels on the A + E Network we should boycott as well:

    HISTORY
    Lifetime
    BIO
    H2
    LMN
    Crime & Investigation Network

Wow. You do realize that not the whole country is Christian right? Forcing someone through harassment to believe what you want them to believe is hardly Christian behavior. Either this country needs to realize that it lives in hypocrisy, or that it is not a Christian nation as you stated. While I myself am Catholic, I believe our Pope Francis said it best “If a person is gay and chooses to follow the path of God, then who am I to deny that person equal love, compassion and acceptance?” I seriously love that this Pope is trying so hard to show Christians how to be Christians. As far as Phil, well see our freedom ends as far as it extends towards the freedoms of another person. There is a difference between stating your views and saying something to aggravate another person. At that point, it becomes harassment and that, is the true abomination.

    • @Jade

I too am Catholic and the Pope is right. Don’t try to be logical with people in the US. They don’t even realize that 5.5 billion people in this world are NOT Christian. They are so self centered and hypocrites.

Like the person above said — they set people up to get arrested. They then incarcerate those people and then profit off them in prison work camps. Many people in their prisons do not even have victims! They think they are the land of the free when they are are not. They just ignore the suffering of others in their own country.

You have to remember the Deep South used the bible to justify slavery. They said God wanted people to own others. That is their mentality and they assume God is on their side. Yep, God was on their side when they dropped two nuclear bombs. Please.

America very much distorts the messages of Christ. Their morality is selective. It is not okay for innocent American citizens to die but it is okay for their country to kill innocent people in Pakistan with their drones.

No matter what your stand, Mr. Robertson has done something no one has done in a LONG time here in the U.S.A. We’re talking about the Bible, Christian principles, our FOUNDATION as a country which respected the right of the people to have different religious beliefs and discuss them freely! Good for him and his family behind him! My family will continue to support him, his GOD and his right to proclaim his belief.
