Here’s What The Daily Is Telling Its SubscribersBy: Chris Crum - December 3, 2012
As previously reported News Corp. is shutting down The Daily, its experimental news app, as a standalone publication. As part of a restructuring of its businesses, parts of The Daily (including some staff) will be rolled into The New York Post.
On its Tumblr, The Daily shared the message it is showing to the subscribers of its iPad app:
Dear Friends of The Daily,
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that we will be ceasing publication of The Daily on December 15th.
The Daily was an incredible vehicle for innovation and we’re proud of the ground-breaking work we did but, ultimately, we were not able to grow as large an audience as we’d hoped. We have valued your ongoing readership, engaging comments, and the lively community we have built together. Your support of The Daily has been our most important achievement, and we are grateful for the trust you’ve put in us, the time you’ve spent with the app, and your incredible advocacy. Thank you!
For those of you who will still have time remaining on your subscriptions after our final issue, your account will be credited for unused portions of your subscription after the last day of publishing, on December 15th.
Finally, we would love to hear your thoughts about The Daily – favorite stories, features, designs, comment discussions – anything you want to share. Send your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll compile and share them over the coming days.
Thank you, again, for everything!
Jesse Angelo, Editor in Chief
Greg Clayman, Publisher
The Daily is not totally going away as a brand. New Corp. said it will be used in other (as of yet unspecified) channels. The Daily also says it will not abandon its Tumblr followers.
