Heavy D, the former leader of popular hip-hop group Heavy D and the Boyz, has passed away at the age of 44. It was reported that he had been suffering from pneumonia and was rushed to the hospital this afternoon. He was later pronounced dead at 1 PM PT. An investigation is currently underway, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

Breaking into the music industry in 1987, Heavy D and the Boyz had success with their first album Living Large. The group arguably had their biggest hit in 1991 with Now That We Found Love, you can see the video below:

To be brave is to cry
    But still to fight on,
    And that’s what you did
    Our hero, our son.

    The battle was hard
    We thought we had won,
    But still you fought on
    Our hero, our son.

    The happiness you brought
To the lives you have touched,
    Will live on forever
As you are loved so much.

when we close our eyes we can see you,
When we whisper your name we can hear you,
And when we reach with our hearts we can touch you.

Goodnight our hero, our son, Heavy D,an Hard Core,
    You are just a child
But you have died a man

Monday-Friday at 12:28p my co-worker and I would get ready…. Heavy D and the Boyz would be coming up on the radio singing “Now That We Found Love… I got up this morning, put on the song, turned on my ceiling fan, took out a scarf to wave, and paid him some R-E-S-P-E-C-T…

Open up clouds, Heavy D is on his way….
