Google Panda Update: Some Wonder If One Just Happened
Some webmasters suspect that Google may have launched a new significant Panda update. This kind of suspicion is fairly common. Sometimes it turns out to be accurate, and sometimes not so much.
Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Roundtable, who regularly monitors the forums, points to some discussion in WebmaterWorld, with one webmaster saying they saw a 50% increase in Google referrals to a “heavy panda’d site” on Thursday.
“It has been hit by multiple rounds of Panda and overall has lost 90% of its google traffic since Feb 2011,” the webmaster said. “Has anyone else noticed a bump to a Panda’d site on Sept 14?”
Sure enough, someone else had, but noted that they were not sure if it was Panda related.
The last time there was a Panda refresh, Google tweeted about it a couple days later. We’ll keep an eye out for any such tweets, for sure.
We’ve reached out to Google for comment, and will update if we receive confirmation or denial.
Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for Google to release its big list of algorithm changes for the month of August. That could happen any day now. Or it could happen next month.
Update: Not sure if its directly related, but Matt Cutts tweeted about a non-Panda algorithm change.
