Google May Not Get This FTC Thing Resolved Until 2013

  • It was expected that the Federal Trade Commission would announce its decision on whether or not to pursue an antitrust suit against Google by the end of the year, but now, it’s looking like that won’t happen.

Bloomberg is reporting, citing “two people familiar with the situation,” that the FTC will not resolve its investigation until next year.

On Tuesday, the EU reportedly announced that Google was expected to send an offer to EU regulators to settle their ordeal in Europe in January.

Earlier this week, a report came out (also from Bloomberg) that Google will offer “voluntary concessions” that will end the FTC’s probe “without any enforcement action”.

The investigation, as the New York Times reported earlier this week, even split up two lawyers that had worked together on the famous Microsoft antitrust case. One of them sees the Google situation as an “instant replay” of that, while the other finds Google to not be hindering competition.
