Luv the article. I too have an overwhelming luv/hate with Google. Appreciated your insight and politely calling them out.

  2. no arguing that the article hits it in the nail. my question is, is google listening? I’m amazed at this people. if you have an issue with places, you are requested to go to a forum. with google tags, you have already paid $25 and you can’t have a human being to assist you? c’mon! I received a email from google adwords that I owe them this amount of dollars. after emailing back and forth, since I never used my adwords account, I cannot be owing them money. I contact google tags, whatever. you need to contact google adwords. this account is not a valid adwords account. after phone call, and getting redirected to at least 3 departments, I get another number. I call that number. one guy who sounds like waking up from sleep, at 3pm! tells me he cannot solve my problem. you can hear the unprofessionalism at the end of the line. bottom line. problem unresolved. I still receive that email every once in a while.

    • Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if they’re listening or not. I don’t believe they can ever succeed at the local game. They’re culture won’t allow it. The whole problem you describe about hiring PHD’s, etc. will keep them from ever providing a great local solution.

    • Your experience sounds like mine and I suspect our experience is typical and par for this google course.

I am thinking I should dispute the charges with paypal ( my cc issuer) as fraud, since adwords swears they have no reason to charge me and that it may say adwords but that is really google places or maps and you cannot contact them.

I even called the corporate office a few times to no avail, supposedly someone is working on it, but I dont know who, nor do I care as they only jacked me for $30 so far, and I am hoping that since I cannot remove my CC, that they dont think they can keep charging me for lame boost ads that have been deactivated.

“In the meantime, I’m actually rooting for Bing. Someone needs to compete to get Google off its arrogant butt.”

You tell them Frank! Don’t hold back! When do we start the uprising, Egypt style! :-) Totally agree with your whole article my man. Couldn’t have said it any better.

but locals dont go to bing and bing maps is used by 1% of the population, as is bing search and winphone7. so good luck buddy on your revolution. somebody probably needs to establish a google consumer affairs or something. go to bing only if you’re suicidal.

    • Yes, I’m listening :) . Watch this space Frank.

  5. I totally agree with you, the whole Google places thing is a total shambles. And the postcards? What’s that all about? Maybe Google wants to start printing search newspapers.

  6. Be prepared to be disappointed yet again, if Google is able to get your credit card for a boost ad. You will NOT be able to remove your credit card from their system. And any charges as of late for google tags and boost ads on the place pages are billed out by bloody adwords! These are not ad words charges, so adwords wont be able to help you.

My experience so far with google tags and boost ads on place ( google map ) pages, shows no real increase in clicks or business, and you end up wasting about $30 a month, and once they get your billing info, you will be unable to remove your billing info from their system UNLESS, you REPLACE it with another valid card. I have went back and forth with google for a few weeks on this, and their right hand and brain dont seem to know that their left hand is stuck up their *BEEP*, so it is liekly if you use these services that you will end up like me, disappointed and still unable to find out who at google is not willing to let go of my credit card data and or remove it from their system. They will bill you without notice, at about a maximum of $30 per place page per month.

What do you think? Respond.
