Amazon.com said today people can now give Kindle Books as gifts to anyone with an email address even if they don’t own a Kindle.

"We’re making this functionality available in time for the holidays to offer an easy, stress free holiday shopping option for anyone – not just Kindle owners,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President, Amazon Kindle.

To give a Kindle Book as a gift, user can choose a book in the Kindle store, select “Give as a Gift” and send it to the recipient’s email address. Notifications of the books are sent via email and the recipient can redeem the book in the Kindle Store.

Kindle Books can be read on Kindle devices and free Kindle reading apps for iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry and Android-based devices.

How it is possible? I want to try this now.

I’m SO glad to finally hear this! I do wonder, though – does the recipient get the email immediately or can you delay it? (Ex. I want to give a book for Christmas, but don’t want the recipient to *get* it until Christmas – not get an email about it a month early.)
