Feedly Launches Web Version, Announces All Users Now On Feedly Cloud
[ Technology]

Earlier this week, Feedly began pointing users to a message about its migration to the Feedly Cloud, as it stops depending on Google Reader. Users were advised to make sure they have the most up-to-date versions. More on all of that here.

Today, Feedly announced in a blog post that Feedly Cloud is now available to all users, and there is a new stand-alone web version available. This has been one of the most-requested features.

A spokesperson tells us Feedly is now at 12 million users, as of the end of May, and there were only about 4 million just before Google announced it would retire Google Reader. Of course, some of these could be people who are just exploring other options, but Feedly is largely considered one of the frontrunners to capture most of the users Google is pushing away. Digg is expected to launch an offering soon (which so far, looks a lot like Feedly), and rumor has it that Facebook might even have something up its sleeve.

The Feedly web interface means users will no longer have to use a Chrome extension, and can use any browser they wish.

Feedly also announced the first nine third-party feedly cloud applications: IFTTT, Sprout Social, Nextgen Reader, gNewsReader for BlackBerry 10 and for Symbian/MeeGo, Press, gReader, Newsify, Pure News Widget, and Meneré. So even you might find you want to take advantage of what Feedly has to offer, even if you don’t turn to Feedly’s own apps. More on the third-party apps in Feedly’s blog post.

Again, these are just the first apps, utilizing Feedly Cloud. Feedly says over 200 developers have contacted it.
