  1. Really nice post! Funny how a persons privacy can be really limited using Facebook.. But I guess that is part of the package of this social media network that’s why people continue to avail.

  2. Really, if people don’t like this feature, they can abstain from using it. I don’t see why it’s such a big issue.

  3. is facebook doing that, i never see on facebook

  4. What if my goldfish is having a baby? There is no way to add that on my facebook account. I feel like I am being discriminated against… :)

It’s a great feature. I can see how people can use it to announce their pregnancy. However, I find it creepy because Facebook position is that “children” should be using facebook and they are always looking for ways to “wedge” into this space. People will definitely get the expecting family advertising for sure. What’s next facebook? How about “reserving” your childs user account for the future. One tiny step a time they’ll get more kids using facebook.

I think it’s stupid but not that creepy, for the same reasons you laid out.

But, your assertion that “An unborn child becomes part of a family as soon as the parents learn of its existence. They love it, prepare for it, and accommodate it in the same way they do for existing children” is not only incorrect (I doubt a woman who has an abortion would consider the fetus part of her family), it probably plays into the very reason some of these people find it creepy, that being the possibility of miscarriage or abortion.

  7. Well in that case ..we should also have relevent options like ..
    Aborted … Miscarried … oops, that was just a missed date ..etc etc ,,, Du’h … !! …

Hey Facebook.. really want us to do a favour … bring in a ‘DISLIKE’ button ..high time!
