If you use Facebook, there’s a good chance you’ve encountered some app or some friend claiming they’ve found a way for you to see who has been viewing your profile. Chances are, it was a scam.

In fact, a few months ago, there were reports circulating about such scams. One in particular, security firm Sophos said attracted 60,000 clicks in just a few hours. Such scams still pop up from time to time. Your best bet is to ignore them, no matter how curious you are.

Facebook has acknowledged in the past that there is no way to view this information, but a post on Quora makes it pretty clear that there never will be a way either.

When someone asked the question: "Will Facebook ever offer a feature like LinkedIn’s, where you can see who has viewed your profile, Facebook Director of Engineering Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth simply says:

"No."

Boz Answers Question about Facebook profile viewing

From the sound of it, you probably have a better chance of seeing a Facebook-branded phone

My advice to you is to only let people you want to see your profile be your friend on Facebook.

I like the fact that Facebook protects your privacy in very detailed ways, but I also like the fact that your curiosity about a boy/girl you like, or looking up an old friend can be done discretely. I think FB wouldn’t be as popular if18 this feature wasn’t enabled.

Maybe Andrew said “no” because nothing good could ever come from this…

Facebook users should just assume that EVERYBODY has looked at (or may look at) their profile, and they should watch what they post in their glass house – or – they should take the necessary steps to change their privacy settings. I have kids that can understand this – why can’t so many adults?

      Well said.

You should be allowed to see whos viewed your facebook profile! I mean why not? It would solve the “Facebook stalkers” problem because people would think twice about looking at non friends profiles. The only types of people that protest this are stalkers themselves. All i ever see online is ” oh I look every 5 freaking minutes at my exs facebook page. can he see this??” Like come on. Thats pathetic! And creepy!!

that is the one of the most ignorant, short-sighted responses I have ever heard. I imagine you are either an adolescence or have the awareness of one.

I am not even going to bother to supply you with the countless other reasons why the majority of FB users would not want or even care about that feature. Most people with awareness have no need to (hope) they have stalkers to complain about – in some attempt to increase their self-confidence in an artificial way. They already have confidence – based on things that actually matter in life. You will have to do the work (thinking) yourself. When you are older (physically/awareness level) you will likely stop concerning yourself with phantom stalkers you wish you were attractive… or interesting enough to have.

Here is a giveaway – if you are really worried (lolol) about stalkers – try the easily accessible privacy settings (lol).

    What about photos or pictures?

Also, can the app tell who viewed your profile or pics if the person is not in your friend’s list?

Apparently this one works – can anyone confirm?

One of my friends just posted a picture with 12 pictures and hundreds of tagged people in it. This is not a real program. Enjoy getting your personal information stolen and sold to a Nigerian Prince.

I guess this function would generate more traffic ie. more frequent visits for some categories of users out of curiosity.
On the same time, I’m certain some users will stop using FB as they understand how few people are looking on their profile/wall…..

Likely the reason this will never be added is because it opens the door for too many 3rd party applications to be developed for it, which is a huge security risk for end-users.

Just now I got some spam from a friend who didn’t know any better, where I was tagged in a photo as someone I am clearly not; this is just a more intelligently designed phishing attack.
