Facebook Slow To Load For Many Users

Facebook appears to be loading slow for many users this morning. Here in our office, we experienced various levels of slow downs. Sometimes the news feed would fail to load completely, other times pages would fail to load.

And when Facebook has problems, everyone takes to other socials networks to complain (and make sure it’s not just them).

#WTF Facebook was so horribly slow this morning…made my #MorningCreep almost impossible. 12 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

OK, at the count of 3, everyone tweet that Facebook is down. Ready? 1-2-3! 35 minutes ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

The “Down for everyone or just me” site says that Facebook is up and running, but there’s no doubt that it’s been a pain for many users this morning.

Strange as it may appear, this problem started after Facebook became a publicly listed company on the stock exchange. Could there be pressure on the company to cut costs (less servers, etc.) in order to increase its valuation on that exchange?

Pages seems to be loading fine for me, but status updates are taking forever to post. Had the same problem yesterday morning.

Facebook loads slower than 77% of the websites on the internet. This statistic I found on Alexa.com, which monitors all of the websites in the world.

    Average Load Time for Facebook.com

Slow (2.402 Seconds), 77% of sites are faster.

It is because they have added too many features, which adds more code that not only must be sent to your browser but also must be run on their server. They are also using a ton of Javascript, which has to be sent to your browser, it is cached once it loads.

Also they have a huge user base and their servers are being overloaded. I often can’t see pictures, just the gray border that goes around them. I often do not see any updates then all of the sudden I see like 30. I feel for any fool who buys their stock, it is just a fad like MySpace at this point. 3-5 years Facebook will no longer be king as something newer and different comes along.
